Just played this tonight

I played this tonight instead of my own rig, because I was letting someone else borrow mine. (I play a 100W SWR Workingman with 2x10's). This amp sounded great. I got a fat bass tone that was very close in quality to my own rig. The AB50 was plenty loud enough - even with a solid drummer. We were also running the vocals through at the same time. We did get a little feedback, but the mic placement wasn't ideal. It's amazing how useful this little amp is. Big time, clean sound all the way around.

I also play lead guitar, and one of my amp's is the Vox ACTV4 (4W, 1x10, tube). Awesome little amp w/PERFECT rock tone. I can't wait to get the two going in the same room. The smallest arena rock concert you'll ever see!

I played the Acoustic big rigs back in the early 70's. This little amp is true to that quality and ease of use. The wedge shape is very handy and well built with the port along the bottom. I play a Fender Precission with nylon wound strings. Although this amp is really designed for acoustic electric bass it still sounds nice and clean with the tone properly dialed in. Read the directions. My bass has a pre-amp (with no adjustment) and that required me to use a lot less LOW tone than I usually use but the amp sounds smooth, clean, and well balanced. I play mostly bluegrass gospel and some southern gospel. If you work with a larger group or with a drummer this may not be enough power but it is top quality and a very nice sound. The wedge shape makes it stightly awkward to carry but the thick soft rubber carry strap helps a lot. I can't wait to try some truly acoustic instruments in this amp.

I bought this to use as a practice amp for my electric & upright bass. This little amp really thumps for a 50 watter. Great usable tone & I was very surprised at the output. You can crank this amp & the signal stays clean. This amp would be great for lower-volume club gigs as a stage monitor, or for coffee house gigs. With the 2 channels and XLR & 1/4" combo inputs this could be a versatile amp for mic'd instruments or vocals too. It's a great value for the money - an amp you will use often.

AB50 works for small venues

The first AB50 I got had a slight rattle on my B and E strings, so I had to get a replacement. I used it on a gig last week with my Michael Kelly 5-string. I use La Bella nylon tape-wound strings, and the tone was very sweet. It has plenty of punch for the little club we played at. The guitar player was even impressed. It's really easy for this old dude to carry around and set up and play. Great for small venues only, unless you're running it through the board. No flashy features, but for the price, it's just fine.

If you are considering an Acoustic AB50 bass amp, I would suggest a "Pass" on this one. I bought one with teh intent of using it for acoustic/electric bass in small venues. It is a very nice looking unit with basic features, but has two serious design flaws. First, the amp section is open internally to the speaker compartment, so jets of air woofle in and out of all the jacks and even the pots, causing substantial noise that sounds like something rattling/buzzing inside, or the speaker farting out. VERY IRRITATING. If you fold up a towel and cover the control panel, it muffles the noise and the unit actually sounds pretty good. If you only plan on playing in loud backgrounds, may not be a problem. But since it is meant for acoustic/electric bass, not so much. The second problem is that the speaker baffle board (3/4" MDF) is supported on only 3 sides, so it vibrates like crazy and accentuates the buzz problem. A handy person could probably fix the second problem with some internal bracing; the first would be much harder. I checked one other and it did the same. Since it is a design issue, I suspect they will ALL do it. Very disappointing; I returned mine and will get something else.
