I play bass for a Cincinnati cover band. I've used this amp for our last 25 gigs. I am amazed by it. Just dial it in when you first get it to find your sound, then seldom mess with it. The lows are full, rich and LOUD. The highs are actually really solid and punchy. I turn it up 3/4 of the way for outdoor shows - no clipping or fuzzy junk. It stays pure. The line out plugs right into a PA via XLR. It's not too big to lug around. Amazing product. Good price.

I bought my Acoustic B200 combo back in September 2008 when I learned that I would be a band's new bass player. This was my first gig playing bass and I didn't want to blow a lot of money on gear but at the same time, I wanted an amp that could compete with a LOUD guitar player. This combo definitely fits the bill. My only problem with it is the sound is limited by the cabinet configuration, so I have added a Hartke 410XL to add highs and punch which I jump from the external spkr out on back. It's a great combo overall.

This bass amp is a good value. With at least one simple modification, it can deliver a well defined and musical tonal color, making it a great practice or small venue bass rig. EQ and Notch filter work reasonably well. Loudness is more than sufficient for rehearsal rooms or small venues.
1) Add fiberglass absorptive material (e.g. fiberglass insulation) to the inside of the cabinet until it is about 90% full. The loudspeaker supplied with the B200, in conjunction with the cabinet design, had some problems with "ringing", that is, resonant modes with elongated envelope decay times that served to "muddy" and reduce "clarity". Increased damping by the addition of fiberglass insulation sufficiently improved this problem in my case, so that's what I would recommend. Note: Grill cloth uses velcro; pull gently for access to front mounted speaker!
2) This is totally optional and subjective: The 4558 op amps used in this amp definitely contribute to its vintage sound. However, I prefer a slightly warmer tonal color, so I installed sockets and replaced all op amps with 4560s. For anyone interested in this level of modification, I would also recommend swapping the 4558s at the front end of the power amp module with 5532s for relative transparency in that part of the circuit.
With the improved clarity offered by added damping material / insulation, I would definitely recommend this product as being a good value for such a relatively low cost.
Have fun!

This Acoustic B200 combo came out just in time! I bought it in Feb. ‘09 when I decided to upsize from a Fender 60W Rumble.
I am mainly a guitar player since '72, but have played bass in bands a few times.
I love the looks, the sound, the size and the features. There is plenty of variations of tones available. As far as distortion, this is what a guitar player wants from a guitar amp. So a guitar amp you want to crank it for creating a good sustain. But with this Bass amp you can't turn it up full blast because it will start to distort and rattle. I know that tubes are best for a guitar amp, and is probably true with bass amps too, but this bass amp sustains just great with my Fender American Standard Jazz. The notes swell nicely and the speaker does a good job.
There is still a question on weather or not it is really delivering 200Watts to the single internal speaker. Here is what the company said, “It is 200Watts at 4 ohms”. We also know that it takes two 8 ohms to make 4 ohms (or 16 depending) and that you can buy the 8 ohm extra cabinet. You tell me. I do practice to recordings being played through my dual 200Watt P.A. system cranked and that the Bass Amp does over power the P.A.
I bought this amp for my studio. Recording direct to the board (Yamaha AW1600) from the bass didn't cut it. I now go from the line out of the B200 combo to the board and now get great sounding recordings.
Yes, I do recommend this amp to Pros and all, it is the best deal on the market right now. I am a happy camper now. I hope this review has been helpful.

This Acoustic B200 combo came out just in time! I decided to upsize from a Fender 60W Rumble. I'm mainly a guitar player since '72, but have played bass in bands a few times. I had to return the first amp because the one screws (on top of the amp) which is directly over the low imp. output had broken thru the housing because it was too long. I discovered it (in time luckily) because I couldn't get my low imp. cord to plug into the output. I did some investigating to see if it could be fixed. After loosening the 4 screws on top of the amp which hold the amp in place, I found out that I could not get the amp out of the cabnet because of the wires that go down from the amp into the speaker. (I suggest to you who are professionally active to buy the B200 amp top and the separate bottom, because it won't have the wires getting in the way of opening it for repair) So I did contact the company and MF about the problem. Neither had heard of this problem before. So MF sent me a second one and it was OK except for a dent in the back corner close to the bottom. So MF gave me a credit for going ahead and keeping it. (thanks MF)
