Wowzer - Nice Amp

No issues at all in the quality control department, and the sound is SUPER. The EU is very tweekable and the sound just has that thing - I suppose you call it TONE - as much as an amp can provide at least.

Gets pretty loud, will shake a room. But it's not going to shake an auditorium. Fine for smaller gigs I think, or line out the thing and use it as a monitor and tone machine. I will be changing out the pre-amp tube soon just to make sure I'm getting the most out of her. Great amp, about 70 pounds which is doable for me. Killer looks in person by the way.

I've had my B200R for about 2 years. Within the first couple weeks of owning it, the preamp tube went bad. Being a DIY type guy, I decided to repair it myself; removing the chassis from the cabinet was a PITA. It seemed to me as if someone forced the amp into the cab and/or pounded it into place with a sledge hammer, as the sides of the amp chassis were badly bent up. Replacing the tube itself was a breeze, and cheap, but still sucked because it was new! After a couple more weeks it started to develop a rattle somewhere inside the amp, it's not awful, but again, it sucks. The only reason I still have this amp, is because it sounds great... It's perfect paired with my flatwound strung p-bass, and nails that motown sound, but is also no slouch for rock, and reggae. Oh yeah, now that I'm thinking about it - the direct line -out has a bad ground (I think), and buzzes, but I haven't had a chance to fix it yet. In the end, I wouldn't recommend this to anybody, unless they want a $600 fixer-upper.

What CRAP

Sounds great WHEN IT WORKS PROPERLY. After it warms up a bit, it makes terrible, distorted noises at random. It also has the VERY COMMON rattling issue associated with the B200R. Chassis looks like it was crammed into the frame by an overzealous lumberjack - it's all bent up. Took it apart - which was extremely difficult - and found NO SHIELDING and saw what a real piece of crap this thing is. It also has the VERY COMMON rattling issue associated with the B200R.

No more Chinese amps for me.

AMPEG is not living up to its rep. There's nowhere within an hour's drive that I can have this thing serviced - I'd be forced to PAY to ship this EXTREMELY FRAGILE turdbox and get it back in WORSE shape. Ampeg assured me that this was A GREAT WARRANTY - I know where they can put their warranty.

For all the hassles it's put me through and the time I've lost on it, I'd say just burn some cash in a backyard ceremony and record the audio - it would sound better than this thing. Send me some video.

Peace.

Best Bass Amp I have owned

I love this amp. It has a warm but clear tone. It handles my 5 string with ease. To those who complain about rattles: BE SURE TO REMOVE THE CASTERS WHICH PULL OUT FROM THEIR MOUNTS! (Mine rattled on "E" pitches) The amp has quality rubber "feet" to sit on. Further rattles may be caused by loose chassis bolts on the SIDES. DO NOT overtighten these or any bolts. Hope this helps!

Classic retro Ampeg....

This amp for me has been a very solid workhorse. No rattles, buzzing, etc. The '60s diamond blue look is great, oven-type knobs,3-band equalizer, headphone jack, and even a blue power light. I had a portaflex 15" cabinet just like it years ago, but this takes the cake. It packs enough power for small to medium size venues. I use a Rickenbacker 4003 and what a sound through this thing. Had it for 6 months now, no problems. Also comes at a decent price. Classic retro Ampeg.
