Pure Bass

I've owned at least 1 SVT-2 Pro since the early 90's depending on the gig at the time. This is pure bass tone, there is no other comparison. I've owned AMP (pre-SWR), Trace Elliot, SWR, Eden, GK, Aguilar, and Carvin along with other Ampeg's. I've played through just about everything else on the market at one time or another as well. Infinite tone shaping ability to meet any style, incredible tone, incredible volume and headroom. Only thing to be prepared for is the weight...it's heavy, but well worth the extra workout carrying it...or rolling it around in your rack. I've retubed them several times as well. I used to keep 1 with KT-88's for rockier gigs and 1 with 6550's for more jazz and fretless gigs and then on big volume gigs I bi-amped and sent 500Hz and lower to the KT-88's and the rest to the 6550's: could be super clean, or super gritty either way it was clear and loud! You cannot go wrong with an SVT-2 Pro.

If your new to bass you might want to look elsewhere for your amp. The controls are very comprehensive, meaning you can get any sound you want. Especially with a normal channle and an EQ channel letting you switch between sounds. I've owned lots of amps, even other Ampeg's, this takes the cake. Be aware that with all the tubes ( when you need to re-tube it's not going to be light on the wallet. Also, at 90 pounds, even more once in a rack, you will need help to move it around. Just look at all the pro's gear. It will always be a SVT-Classic or this amp. I've owned both, this is the way to go if you want lots of that amazing SVT tube growl.

Worth the money

This amp packs all the punch, tone, and versatility into an all tube rackmountable system. This head was meant to play the big venue with two 810s. the sound and attack are all there and with the addition of a 9 band eq (as opposed to the classic without) this head makes every bassist for any style get that tone they need. Low end is what I like for my hardcore band tuning to B flat. I plugged in and shook the foundation of the store. The gain half up and the master on 2! Still keeping the tubes at a good temp and no tone was sacrificed at all! If you want power and tone check this out. The classic is this exact head with diffferent preamp tubes. (because of 9 band) AMAZING A+++ Don't fret the overseas move. Ampeg will still honor and hold their ground.

KILLER!!!!!!

The first time I played through this amp was in 1994, through a pair of Eden 2x10's. The sounds coming out of this amp were so mystifying, I had to have it. I've held on to that dream for 13 years and finally bought one in '07. I use this amp through a 2x10 and a 1x15. I wish I had a pair of 8x10's, though because that's what this amp is meant to drive. This amp is a MONSTER, pure and simple. At home, I decided to see what would happen when I turn the volume up to the 12:00 position (half way), and let me say that pictures were falling off the walls, jars falling out of cabinets....my head was about to explode. The tone of the 2 Pro is very "round", a pure tube sound; not nasal-sounding like many solid state amps. The only drawback to the 2 Pro is the weight. This sucker is 80 lbs, but it feels like more. Couple that with a GOOD rack case, and you could be puching 110lbs. Wear steel toe boots.

A Great Boat Anchor

After playing in bands for 21 years I can say that this is the best sounding amp I have ever plugged into. As long as you replace and bias the tubes every 400 hours the tone will rock.

The amp is loud, but not as loud as a mesa boogie 400. The boogie will never compare to the tone of any SVT. I have owned and still own the following. Hartke 3500, SWR 350, Kruger 400rb, Sun 300, fender band master. Nothing compares in tone. If your looking to slap and tap; go solid state. If your looking to move mountains; buy an ampeg.
