With the new SVT-VR, the Ampeg engineering and product development teams had one primary goal-get as close to the coveted tone of the classic SVT as possible. As a result, the preamp stage, power section, and even the rocker switches of the new SVT-VR emulate the exact signal path, tone, and vibe of the original.

The all-tube, 300W SVT-VR amplifier is driven by a total of 6 - 6550 power tubes for massive power and tone. In addition to the '70s style dials and rocker switches, the SVT-VR's preamp circuitry has been faithfully re-created to match the original.

Ampeg SVT-VR Vintage Reissue 300 Watt SVT Amp Head Features:

  • 300W

The new imports are crap

We ordered one for the studio for bands who dont like recording direct and to give use more versatilty recording bass. Buyer beware, the new imports from the far east pale in comparison to the old ones made in the USA. The soldering inside the unit was an absolute joke. The unit was "buzzy/noisy" Within 3 weeks the power switch literally "fell" into the unit. (thats when we discovered the horrible soldering) Considering prices were supposed to come down with the move to the far east, not the QA, I would not buy another.

After using the SVT-3PRO for a few years, I decided to step up to the big leagues & purchase my first all-tube Ampeg. Nothing beats the pure, meaty tone that this head, coupled with an Ampeg 410-HLF cab, provides.

BUT!!!! Buyer beware! The Tubes are made overseas and are very very low quality. I have had mine for almost 2 years, and they just crapped out finally.

The buyer guide recommends you retubing your amp every year, but if you get it done by someone who really knows what they're doing, you can get away with every two years. Like I said, the tone is unbeatable, but this is a serious, & constant investment.

Great tone

I was in the market for a new tube amp head and I kept seeing the EVT-VR pop up during my research. After taking in all the reviews, I set out to try one at Guitar Center. I was blown away from the first note I played. I have only owned solid state bass amps until now, and there really is no comparison. This amp sounds incredibly warm and full, and has a growl to it that is second to none. Not a ton of knobs to tweak on this amp, but I've found that the controls are more than adequite to find almost any tone you may be looking for. Only two drawbacks to this amp (both are similar, actually). 1) EXPENSIVE! No way around it, this is a pricey amp. Luckily for me I managed to get quite a good price (I may not have purchased it otherwise). 2) Seeing as how this thing has 14 tubes! 4x12AX7, 4x12AU7 and 6x6550. So when it comes time for a retube, it will not be cheap. Other than the monitary concerns, there is no reason not to buy this amp.
