I've been running this amp now for 5 months without any issues at all. It sounds excellent paired with a MAG 410 and a ABM 115. I also run a Schecter Stiletto Studio 5 though it and it sounds incredible. Deep bass with a nice high overtone. It's nice and loud and has a built in D.I. slot which makes hooking it up at gigs a breeze.

The VU metre is nice and makes it easy to find the edge where it starts to become distorted. It does like to shoot over the red line if my basses low output is too high, however. (active pups, nomesayin'?)

Now the cons... The materials used on the buttons and dials are just cheap plastic, and they defiantly feel cheap. I haven't had any problems with it but I do feel the need to baby the knobs a bit. The sub-harmonic generator is all right. Nothing too special, adds a nice low end growl but can sound bad on the higher frets so it's nice to tone it down a bit. This amp is wired at 4 ohms and all of ashdowns cabs are wired at 8, so you need to run to cabs in parallel to get the full 300 watts out of this. Once you do, this thing is loud.

Overall: Great value for the price. If ashdown ever upgraded the materials and feel of the buttons and knobs and allowed you to switch it from being run in 4 ohms and 8 ohms, they would have one of the greatest value amps out there. O have no regrets purchasing this product.

I have had this head for over two years with no problems. you have to turn the volume all they way down when plugging in your guitar cord. If you don’t the amp makes a loud popping noise and the amp wont play anymore. Because they didn’t turn the volume down they actually blew a fuse inside the head (this is a safety precaution so you don’t blow you speaks in the cab). WOW so this is a good and reliable head, I have been gigging with it for a while with no problems.

Bought it about six months ago. Had played a combo up til then. The first one I recieved burned up when I turned it on. Sent it back and had a new one within 7 days. Much better. I was worried but I liked what it had to offer for the price. I used to play through an Ampeg SVT 4x10 cab, but the head was too much for it. Sounded good low, but no volume. I then purchased a Carvin 115 cab. I am not sure if it is the Cab or the amp, but I love the sound I get and the volume shakes the house. It seems hard to get the sound I want from the head. I would prefer sliders rather than rotary knobs, but I guess I can live with it for a while.

I have used the Ashdown Mag 300H for 6 shows and I LOVE IT. I play on a Carvin Custom 5-string bass and bought a used GK Backline 410 cab to go with the head. The VU indicator makes finding the edge easy, and yes it does act like a tube amp(as much as a solid state can). Produces great clean tones, easy to use EQ, and the power is awesome. Can play wide open all night, usually only need 1/4 to 1/2 though.

Irrespective of entry price, I expect an amplifier to at least arrive factory new WITH clean potentiometers. I can't turn a single knob on this unit without crackling and popping noises, and while playing, the signal is dirty. I don't know. They must have built this one during a sandstorm, WITH the doors and windows open. I'm saving for a British made Ashdown head, now. This unit is not worth the risk.
