I recenlty bought this head because I want to have all my stack with Ashdowns equipment. I really love this head. Is easy to use and the compresor(in the new version that is the one I have) help you to find good sounds. The only thing I don't like(like some guys here said)is that I'm not sure that this head delivers a full 575 watts a 4 ohm or even the half at 8 ohm. I don't have problems with this becuase my cabs only handles 250 watts to 8 ohm so is better in my case but I fell that I have to crank too much the output to really have good volume. The good fact is that the head not have any distorcion(thanks God) but you will have to cranks too much. Other than that, is an exellent head. Better sound and more easy to use than my last three heads (an Ampeg B2R, an Swr 550x and a Genz Benz shuttle 3.0). By the way,,Ashdown customer service are great!!!

Best head I've played through

I have played through about twenty heads over the years. This one is by far the best. It has enough power, great tone, and is well built. It reminds me of those Mark Series heads that Peavey built in the 80's. I have played about 150 gigs with it and it sounds as good as ever. I gave it a 4.5 for features because it could have a little more power. My backup, a Hartke 3500, is much louder but does not have the "clear" tone this one has. The lack of power has not been an issue yet. I don't think it ever will be. If is is, you can always DI it out. The tone stays true, even when cranked. It's just a great head. Though, I do not feel you get a full 600 watts.

E.Q. section is great, should be able to get the tone you want. Musician's Friend sent me the new model with the compressor. Nice surprise. To operate the sub harmonic control, make sure you have a strong signal [get the needel in the input gauge moving], otherwise the octave wont work. Not so sure about the 575 watt rating, not as loud as other amps I've had with 500 and less watts. Over all a great amp.

Could be a good head but....

I have had this head for about 3 years. This head has great tone, just no power. It seems no matter how I adjust the input, it still goes into the red on the input meter. If you adjust everything so you don't clip on the meter, you loose almost all of your volume. Another strange this about the head is that adjusting the EQ,high boost, low boost, and sub harmonics effects the input on the amp, thus causes the input meter to go into the red. So now you have to adjust the input so you aren't clipping, and you have lost all the "boosts" that adjusting the EQ,high & low boost, & the sub boost have given you. So for me it's impossible to get enough power out of this to compete with a drummer. I figure I might be pulling 125 watts at 8 ohms, when I should be getting about 275 watts at 8 ohms. Bassically any adjustments you make on this head will cause the input meter to go into the red, so you have to turn it way back to avoid clipping, thus you loose any volume you have gained by making adjustment to the EQ, or boosts. Great tone, sounds great, it's just hard to get any power out of this head.

I recently purchased am Ashdown Mag 600H and I must say I am very impressed. While all the features are pretty straight forward this thing has tone for days. I am running it to a Hartke 4x10 and a Hartke 1x15 and it puts out a ton of low end. The build quality seems solid as well. NO COMPLAINTS HERE
