BC Rich Mockingbird HC Bass

This bass is all about the neck. It has a fantastic neck that is very different from any of my other guitars. It's wider and flatter and it feels "chunkier" or "beefy-er". The frets have been well dressed and are smooth all along the neck binding. The ebony fret board is "silky" to the touch. Neck though basses have a different feel and this one is even more different. You can almost feel that neck going all the way through, from stem to stern. The pots are smooth and even and offer me just a little resistance when I turn them. I like that. I don't want a pot to move at the slightest breeze. You get Volume, Presence, High EQ, and Low EQ for potentiometers. The tuners are firm and smooth and hold fast. The bridge is think and heavy. The finish is beautiful. The two sets of Precision style pickups are hot. With the pot configuration on this bass, you get quite a few sonic variations in tone. The bass is not balanced. The body is too light and the neck wants to constantly level it's self with the horizon. The position of the front strap button behind the upper horn, causes the guitar to tip slightly away from your body. So if you like to watch your fingers on the fret board, those days are gone if you play this bass. It also means you'd better put strap locks on it right away. Because the headstock constantly wants to move further away from you, you have to really reach out there with your left hand to get to that first 'F'.

Noisy Electronics

The first one I received didn't play at all, and the second one had a very noisy treble control. I changed the 9V, then had a technician look at it. He couldn't find any problem. I returned it for a refund. Too bad, it looked and played great.

This Bass Rules !!!

I bought this bass a few months back. I have been playing for about 30 years , and have played mostly Ibanez. But have also played Shector , Rick's , Yamaha's , and other's. My favorite bass until I played this one was my Rick 4001. I sold it and bought this bas . Not just because of it's look's. But also because of it's silk plyability and bottom end. I use it with my SVT ampeg and it shakes the entire house. To the point dishes rattle up stairs. Not because of just the amp. This bass has tons of bottom end . That will rock your socks off. I am no Geezer Butler . But with this bass the intro bass solo to NIB that I do. Never sounded better. The price is ok for the punch also.

Get this bass now. If your a serious rocker !!

This bass Does play well and the pickups are nice. The only thing I didn't like about it is that the front sling attachment was in the rear of the body; making the heavy neck pull down. This put alot of strain on my forearm. So, I relocated the front sling attachment underneath the top bow of the body and it really Rocks now. I placed some 40-95 strings on it..and now I play it like a six string.

I fell in love with the looks of this bass the first time I saw it. It is absolutely beautiful in shape and finish. It is a really nice tribute to the originals from the 70's. It plays as good as it looks. Active pick ups would have been a nice touch but not necessary. The only flaw I have with it and is keeping me from buying one is it is very unbalanced and the head dives straight for the floor when you let go of the neck. I'm still considering it and I probably will buy it and live with it's one flaw.
