I found that running the pedal off left my Jazz Bass a little muffled sounding, missing some mids, but my pedal was defective... so not really sure if it was supposed to do that, but when on it did what it was supposed to do. ... Built like a tank....except the LED status light didn't work on mine (I'm currently sorting that out with customer support) ... The operator sounded friendly, the "please hold" music simply looped, the annoying computer reminding you that you are still on hold was not needed, however the actual customer support was great! Besides the odd fact that the online extension given to be connected to customer support didn't connect you to anything, if you call again and stay on the line till you are connected to a "person" just ask to be transfered to customer support. He suggested working with Best Buy customer support as they usually have their own 30 day policy (which I didn't know since I bought it online) and their service on the other hand was also great however their people sound a bit bored. ... I'm a bass player playing through a guitar combo that will soon be loaded with some 12" subs, and I need the extra bass boost so this pedal is perfect! ...
It's very easy to use, the manual shows some settings what they think would suit various styles, however it's best to tweak until you get the exact sound you want (doesn't everything?), but it does the job perfectly :-) ... I'm using this with a guitar, my following rig (excluding pedals) is: Dean Vendetta 4.0, Custom Line6 Spider II 2x12 and a Randall 4x12, and the sound was a little tame before I bought this, the GEB-7 changed my sound completely, i'm now sounding meatier than ever! ... Not a problem as of yet, I would rely on it without a backup, but that's only so it's less to **** about with before shows. I'd probably buy a backup if we started getting roadies ;) ... Never dealt with them, but I've heard mixed opinions about BOSS customer support... ... My band play melodic metal type stuff (think Darkest Hour meet Killswitch Engage at an Atreyu show), and this compliments our style perfectly. I have various other pedals that are tucked away and are accessed by an A/B selector but this is always on, a main part of my rig. The only think i didn't like was that my level slider was a little loose and kept sliding about. But nothing a little duct tape can't solve! If this was lost I'd buy another and bolt it to my pedalboard, and if it was stolen I would buy another, not a second thought about it! ...
This is the ORIGINAL unit from the late 1980s with a gold faceplate, brown casing and DIFFERENT FREQUENCIES to the current silver-grey model. Frequencies: 62-125-250-500-1k-2k-4k.
