I bought this pedal on pure impulse. and was imediately sceptical about it on the first try. That really quiet high pitch noise bugged me to a point where thats all I was listening to. It was only really noticeable if I was playing couteously quiet. As long as the thing was kept below a quarter turn on the enhance knob its other knobs really did something special for my tone. Even though it seemed really really small for a difference. With my boss bass eq pedal it gave me some really good sound. I do think the pedals use is ferociously over priced for what it does though.

I Am Really on the Fence

This unit is really Hissy, but not as bad as my levelar (Which I really like a lot more in the Studio). When I play Live I use a pre Fender SWR Red Head with a Hartke 410 XL as an extension Cabinet with a early 90's Fender Jazz Plus 5 String equipped with EMG Active electronics (With Some EQ options as well)I am trying to use this thing as a LEVELING AMPLIFIER or limiter if you will, as opposed to a straight out compressor (IF you are in the Know think UN1176) I Do Not use the Enhancer on this pedal at all as the Aural enhancer on the amp does a better job. I also use a Boss EQ pedal to goose the Low Mids just a bit to give me some clarity and punch (Our Rock N roll Guitar player uses a TWIN so he is umm how you say LOUD) This pedal does work and at this price I think it does an admirable job, but I think I am going to try a sqeezer by T REX. IF my Levelar wasnt so hissy through my amp I would love to use that. Overall this thing is built by Boss so you know that it will always work and for the money they do manage to get a lot of features in there. It Does do a reasonably good job of maintaing sting dynamics and helping you to place your bass in a live mix. But It does not offer up any type of COLOR to your sound. and I guess that is my ultimate complaint.

I first bought this pedal in 1999 and used for a bit along with the boss eq pedal and noise supressor pedal. After awhile stopped using pedals for a number of years. After moving found these pedals in their case collecting dust.. Cleaned them up and started using them again last year.. I did not know what I was missing! Gives my 5 string B.C. Rich and nice Korn-like tone..
