Ifyou so happen to come accross one of these amps Run as fast as you can from them they can't stand up to nothing. You'll get your best sound at place where they are selling it. Then the amp will crash during normal use. It goes all distorted and Crate won't honor the warranty. They will tell you that you did something wrong, This the worst experience I've every had in my life of 45 years with anything I've ever purchased

I bought this amp in January of 2008 because my old amp had a speaker blow out on me and I wanted something with more power than what I had. I play in some smaller venue shows (100-500 people) and this amp is perfect for what I need it for. It has got great tone and many different control options plus it really puts out. I love the XLR feature it has along with the tuner built in to the unit. It's easy to transport around and is quite durable. I highly recomend this amp to anyone just starting out or even playing at smaller shows. Have fun and keep on rockin' in the free world!!

I was always hesitant about these reviews, thinking that maybe people who just wanted to get rid of these would write great reviews so that people would buy them. I guess I was wrong about this one. This amp is perfect if your looking for a practice/small gig amp at a good price, buy this one. If your looking for a nice beefy, warm tone, I would recommend this. Comes with octave and distortion effects, switchable with a foot-pedal, or a switch on the amp. The distortion tends to cut out and not make any sound at lower volumes (the knob being at less than 8 o'clock) but otherwise it seems nice. Fun to play with, but I don't really need it. I have not heard many effect pedals, but the octave seems to work fine. If your playing a note lower than the 5th fret on the E-string (again at less than 8 o'clock ) it just sounds normal, like there isn't an effect at all. But easily remedied by turning up the volume. If I ever start playing small gigs, this thing is for sure enough power. I won't ever have to buy an amp again. I'm not sure about now. If you can get this for 270$ or whatever shipping is extra, it would still be worth it.

The first Crate BT220 I received was in poor shape. The amp was loose in the cabinet and several buttons and the foot pedal didn't work. It also had a rattle in the cabinet that made it unplayable. I returned it and the new one sounds 100% better despite UPS completely cutting the box in half. The sound is great and it is loud enough to get over the drums at half volume. The distortion channel works great if you know how to use it. The noise gate in the channel requires the Bass volume be cranked up especially on the higher notes. Then you need to use the distortion level or the master volume to keep the volume at a reasonable level. The Octave feature is nice to boost the low end on the higher notes. And the tuner is a nice feature to have. All in all this amp is decent and for the price, it would be hard to beat.
