I saw one in a Sam Ash cuz it just stood out from the others . Just so ugly cool . Tried playing it and it just played like a dream .Clean colorful tone. The scale on the neck just begs for high speed showoff bass riffs . Falling for it . Then I get looking at it . Cheapo plastic knobs that look like they were pulled off a model kit and you can see the mold breakaways still. The vinyl laid around the body way cut and clued crooked and the tuners look as if they'll pop off and the worst time having you tuning this bass with a pair of pliers . Resonated knobs , better tuners and a better attention to detail and this would e a killer bass. Until Danelectro rectifies the cheapiness I'd rather get a good Squier or Epiphone for the money.

I had a nice 90s reissue longhorn that I let go. Thought I would like to have a short scale around just as a lap bass. This new version is better as far as the general construction. The neck/fretwork could be better. There is a high fret or bump in the neck at the 11th fret so the notes there are buzzy if played moderatly hard. I know how to set up basses so I think this is a construction flaw. The pickups are much better than the early reissues. The sound has a broad spectrum of tone that is excellent for many styles of music. The original round wound strings are very good with great depth and a nice high end sheen. The volume knobs were pushed against the tone knobs so they would turn together. I lifted them a bit and now they move independently of each other. The tuners, electronics, truss rod and adjustable wooden bridge all work perfectly. I really enjoy having this instrument and recommend it to any level player.

Played this bass today at a shop. Great bass. Had a very nice tone. I would describe it as punchy. Was setup nicely and although unreasonably silly looking, a very good bass, especially for the price!

Just recieved my new Danelectro Dead on 58 reissue longhorn bass yesterday, didnt need to adjust anything it was ready to play right out of the box, I already have a Danelectro reissuie longhorn bass from the 90's and have been enjoying and playing that bass both in and out of the studio, so already have had experience with Danelectro basses before, dont let the low price fool you, these are great basses, thery play very nice and the sound and tone these basses put out are unbeliveable, I also have and play Fenders, and Rickenbackers and others that cost extremely more than this little gem, but my Danelectro longhorn holds its own up against these other high end basses and has been one of my top choices in the studio, these are great basses to play and alot of fun to play as well, the only thing I will change is take of the factory roundwound strings and replace them with Labella (made for Danelectro basses) flatwound strings, and make the proper adjustments so the bass is set up for the flatwounds, so if you have been curious about these basses, take the plunge and get one of these, you will be amazed the tone this bass has and how much fun it is to play, I highly recomend this bass to players of all skill levels, guitar players who want to play bass too will find the transition going from guitar to bass very easy to adjust to due to the shortscale and very thin neck, this is a very good bass at a very afordable price, .
