I am not the best bassist by far, but I can get great, clear walks out of her, she'll bring the funk when your feeling randy and the rock steady rhythms are tone-tastic running clean right to a decent amp. As with any 5 string, a smaller amp will not accomodate the B string too well, but if you have good gear, you'll love the low tones.

I was very impressed by this bass. A super value and really comfortable. I can say by the other users' comments that they've played it too and are true. the strings are nice and close, the jack wiggles but thats not a big deal, the tone is awesome (preamp and no battery!) and it's easy on the joints. Nice bass for strumming, picking and slapping. try it through 2 15s.

I can't say enough...

I have been playing bass for over 15 years. I recently picked up the fretless version of this bass, and I am completely impressed. I own several basses, from a classic Ovation Magnum II, to hotrod 80's-90's neck-thru rock/metal machines...and this bass will hold it's own against any of them. I only bought this bass because I got a great price for it (somewhere else), and I'm so glad I did. I would have been happy with the bass, even if I paid the full RETAIL price!!! The active Dean preamp is amazing (straight into the PA), the quality of the neck is 2nd to none, and the PU fader pot (instead of a switch) is genius. I can't comment of the FRETS, but I would imagine they would match the quality of the rest of the instrument.

I've been playing bass and drum set for about 3 years and I own two basses a Jackson 4-string and the Dean 5-string and I've played many others and I'd have to say that unless your willing to fork out some unreasonable amounts of money, your not going to get anything much better if at all than this.
