An 8 String bass has a sound that is truely unique. In the studio this Dean 8 string sounds great clean or dirty. If you want a big sound try this 8 string through an overdiven tube amp. Clean, it sounds like a piano. The brass nut is a big plus. The pickups are great! I'm very happy with the Edge 8 String!

I was looking for a new bass to upgrade from my Squier Standard Jazz, I was always interested in 8 strings, so I went ahead and bought myself this bass. Dean did an INCREDIBLE job with it. It played perfectly right out of the box with little tuning adjustment needed. It takes a few seconds to get used to the slightly wider neck, but it's very easy to play regardless if this is your first 8 string or not. Tone is incredible on this, thanks in part to the active electronics. This is now my main axe and I recommend it to anyone.

I've only had my Dean a few days but I felt compelled to write something about it here. This bass is amazing. I bought it to play in my metal band, we tune down to drop C and the octave up strings really help the overall sound coming from a bass tuned that low. The band all love it too, I thought that it might be too much in a band with two guitarists (who both have a pretty bass heavy sound) but it compliments their sound nicely. The extra octave cuts through the bands mix but it doesn't dominate it, you still get a nice extra low thud from the regular strings too.

Playing wise its pretty easy to play. I can slap on it fine, the only thing which I find a bit harder is right hand backslaps (scraping my thumb accross the strings) but I've got used to it pretty much already. Some chords are a bit tricky too. In fact I think this bass is easier to play than a regular one in many respects.

I also own a Fender Jazz, an Ibanez BTB400QM and a Honer BBass V - the Dean is the best sounding of them all.

This bass should cost twice as much.

I have owned this bass for 8 months now and i have to say i love this bass. i own three of them but this is the only one i ever play anymore. the sound is just amazing, especially if you are looking for that rock sound. I would have been willing to pay much more for this guitar, but at this price, it is just an incredible deal. i couldn't be happier with this guitar, this will be the last guitar i buy for a while, i don't need another one after having this one. it has definitely spoiled me. Dean did one awesome job with this guitar.

this is one awesome guitar. the resonance that this thing puts out is beautiful. and its looks are killer. people just gawk when they see me pull out my eight-string. i love that. i absolutely love this guitar. this is the absolute best guitar i have ever owned. i wouldn't trade this one for anything.
