The Dean Pace 4-String Electric Upright Bass is well built and well priced. Position markers on the side help you keep track of where you are on the neck as you transfer your hard-won chops to the moaning, liberating sound of a fretless upright. Solid maple neck-through construction with slotted headstock, standard 35" scale, and traditional 6"- radius rosewood fingerboard. Piezo bridge with buffer preamp lets you plug right into a standard bass amp. Double-braced tripod stand and black chrome hardware make the Dean Pace Bass easy to manage and very cool looking.

I bought this upright because of price, and I needed it to play one of the many styles of music that I play, At first I loved it,acton was good, and the sound was great, but during a performance,The sound went haywire leaving the vocalist hanging, talk about embarassing!changed batteries, still no sound!Just a loud hummm.Got home off our trip and sent it back,The pick-ups were faulty,I am saving money now to buy a better upright

I have owned this Bass for 3 years. I loved it at first then the bridge malfunctioned, replaced it. Then the tuners stripped out, replaced them. Then the pre-amp malfunctioned, Dean informed me to wire it up passive because they were having too much trouble with the pre-amps. What a disapointment!

This bass is ideal for any bass guitar player who wants to make the transition to an upright or just learn proper upright bass techniques. It is extremely portable, all breaking down in about 1 minute to fit in a case not much bigger than a regular bass case. While this is a great entry-level upright, pros will also find it to be perhaps the ultimate travel upright (if you can deal with the shorter scale). The wood used is beautiful; it is a slick-looking instrument. My only complaint is the unfortunate lack of a tone knob, as the bridge pickups are rather bright. In other words, you will want to adjust your EQ liberally for this bass. Aside from that, the hardware is excellent all around, and, most importantly, it's a good value thats fun to play.

If you seriously want to enter the world of upright bass playing... don't buy this one. It sounds nothing like an upright, it's ugly, and it is very very cheaply made. The price is cheap for an upright but, you get what you pay for ya know? The only thing puts this 'bass' in the upright category is the fact that it is on a stand and has piezo pickups, other than that, nothing in common (especially in the tone department)... You want my advice from a semi-pro player? Don't waste your money, Dean doesnt even make good normal electric basses much less an EUB...
