A good effect pedal for anyone

I bought this to further expand my playing sound and it worked awesome! Plenty of effect to play around with plus a metronome, and drums. I actually used the drums on this thing to write songs with my old band since we didn't have a drummer and it worked just fine. I havn't had any problems with it since i bought it, except if it gets to cold it kinda "freaks out". But let it warm up abit and its all good. This will give you alot of new things to explore and play with for along time. Plus its handy if you don't have a drummer or band. Just something to sit down and jam with by yourself exploring new ideas.

Not Great for Old Guys......

Let's put this review in context right from the start: I just turned 50, and have been playing since I was 13. This particular product was purchased because at the time, the only bass I had was an old Sears & Roebuck (yeah, do you believe that?) jazz bass knockoff, and the pickups didn't have very good sustain, and the compression really stunk (stank?). This unit really helped with both.
However, to use it as a foot pedal is difficult, especially if you're a bigfoot with size 13's like me. I had to put it on top of my amp (a 1974 Peavey Musician --told ya' I've been around for awhile....) and hand slap it to use the bypass or switch the effects.
After buying an Ibanez with Bartolini active pickups, I decided that the pedal wasn't needed anymore.
HOWEVER, just recently, I've been playing rhythm guitar, and this pedal has two features that can be useful: it has a voicing called "funky," that if used with a strat in the neck pickup, sounds just like the wah in "Shaft." Also, the other voicing that could be useful is the "Octapie," which doubles the note an octave below. If you use a guitar on the octapie to play bass lines, it's like having the bass and a guitar on overdrive doubling lines (think Cream playing "Sunshine of Your Love). This feature could be used to thicken up your sound when you're playing in a combo that has no guitar--i.e., keyboards, bass and drums.
Would I buy it again? Hey, I'm a grouchy old guy who doesn't really have much use for effects like chorus, flange, or fuzz on bass. Buy it if you have an inferior bass or need to juice up your pickups, but I would recommend you use the money as a down payment for a bass with active pickups.

I never really had any problems with this effect pedal. I enjoy alot of the effects on it. The phaser is awesome....buuutttt. I could not find a wah effect I actually liked and the distortion was...ummm crappy to say the least. All in all if you are looking for sweet effects for solos (that dont include wah) this is one of the best I've seen. I do advise you to save up and get a bigger model of it tho. This one kind of lacks features. I play alot of funk/metal so if you are in that genre I'd sort of recommend it.

I bought this pedal just a week ago and already the BP-50 has proved to be one awesome floor modeling pedal for an affordable price. I love the phaser and synth effects. I'll admit some of the effects do sound similar but when you customize them it's worth it. I recommend this pedal to anyone who loves making awesome bass sounds.
