i saw this bass and i had to have it. when it arived the day before my gig i couldnt wait to try it out. unfortunatly when i opened the box i found a 6-sting instead of a 5-string...oops. so i went ahead and played it a bit. i loved the bass except for one minor flaw, it kept cutting out during play. i assumed it was just the battery, and i sent it back the next day. after a lot of pacing the floor i finally recieved the five sting i had origanally ordered. needless to say after my issues with the 6 string the first thing i did was replace the battery. i took the bass to practice and plugged it in. IM SO STOKED!!!!. and then....WTF! it started cutting out just like the 6 did. i changed cables and tried again. urggg! so i changed cables again. arggg!. im starting to get pretty frustrated at this point, so i plugged in my other two basses with no problems(ibanez). i called ESP and they said they would send me a new wiring harness and preamp but i personally think this bass needs a bit more attention from the manufacturer. its a beautiful bass with a LOT of excelent features. but if you cant play it whats the point. im beyond bummed....
Great bass, great price

I've owned this bass for about 4 months and I love it! The action is low and fast. The neck is smooth and thin for a 5 string. I bought this thinking I could replace the pickups later, but now I'm not sure that I will. The ESP's sound really good. Great sustain. I can rumble out notes for what seems like hours.
The only down sides are the weight and the knobs. It's a little heavier than I like, but the right strap has fixed that for me. And the only reason I gave it a 4.5 on quality is because one out of the five knobs is loose and can't be tightened up anymore.
Overall, this is a great bass for the price. Can you get a better bass at a higher cost? Absolutely. But in this price range you'll find nothing better. Buy it.
Really nice bass

The reviews here lead me to this bass. It was difficult to buy sight unseen, but VERY pleased. I was looking at a similar Peavy which was out of stock at the time. The action is very low and has a very thin neck (good for shorter fingers). The tone is good, smooth neck through body, and there is no string buzz. I have had several other lower end basses but this has been the best by far. I played a few more expensive basses at the local music shop and honestly wouldn’t trade for this one. I have had this for about 6 months and still very pleased.
For the money, you can’t go wrong with this bass.
Xcellent!! bass

I'm a bass/guitar nut. Ever since I joined a new band and we tune all the way down to B-standard I've been needing a five-string bass because My Omen-4 that I have takes de-tuneing pretty well but at the same time I'm kinda worried about keeping it tuned that low permanantly.
This seems to be the five-string for me because I've played one before and dug the way that it felt and even though it's made from some exotic type wood who's name I'm not even sure how to pronuonce it's got a stellar tone. I like the fact that it's a neck through though neck-thru on basses is usually a taboo thing it adds sustain. The neck contour on this bad boy is a little bit chunky for my smaller fatter hands but for this beast I can cope. The neck is a five pice neck-thru made of mohogany and walnut, so in short the neck on this isn't likely to bow or break it's a tank as far as build quality goes. And it's got active pickups and pre-amp to boot which I like on basses but I hate active pickups on guitars.
