The body of the ESP LTD D-6 Bass Guitar is shaped out of Merbau, a hardwood native to Southeast Asia giving it a dark hue similar to a mahogany. In fact, if it wasn't for the lighter maple of the 5-piece maple/mahogany neck-thru designed neck, you'd have a hard time discerning that this was a neck-thru design from outside appearances as the dark woods are a very close match. The neck itself is a thin "U" shape and with a double cutaway design making it easier for players of all sizes to access the frets with ease. This standard scale (34") 6-string bass sports a 54mm standard nut, 24 XJ frets, a rosewood fingerboard, Grover tuners, an ESP DB-6 string-thru-body bridge, and black nickel hardware. The electronics include dual ESP SB-6 (bridge & neck) pickups with an ESP ABQ-3 3-band active EQ which lets you boost or cut lows, mids, and highs before the signal ever hits your amp.

This D-6 is definitely the nicest Bass I have ever played in my life. It feels and plays like a much higher dollar instrument. I had some trepidation when I decided to make the switch from 5 to 6 strings, but I am glad I did it. The action on the D-6 is fast, and low. Plays sweet, and the active EQ makes it easy to find your "spot". The extended range of the high C is a welcome addition to my bag of tricks. I highly recommend this bass to any player that needs a professional quality instrument, but doesnt have the $ for something else.

I received this bass as a Christmas gift from my dad, and I was blown away when I saw it. It's a lot better looking in person than online. And when I plugged it into my bass amp... I was like wow, it sounds even better than it looks. This bass is worth a lot more than the asking price in my opinion. It's pretty much a steal. But if you want an even better bass than it would be wise to get a b-1006, if you're willing to invest the extra 600 dollars or so.

I was a little apprehensive about moving to a six string bass from my four. I read, with great interest, the review of the D-5 in Bass Player Magazine, which said “Bottom Line - A great 5-string at an unbeatable price.” (it even achieved an editor’s choice award). I went into my local shop to try it out and maybe pick it up. Unfortunately, they did not have the five string but had the D-6 instead. After playing the D-6 for a while, I was convinced that Bass Player was correct in their praise of the ESP Ltd. D series. This is a lot of instrument for low money; great construction, quality parts, and totally playable right out of the box. I decided to take the plunge and move up to the six string and I am glad I did. The only things I would consider upgrading, and I might not even do this, would be the bridge and pick-ups. Both the ESP DB-6 bridge and ESP SB-6 pick-up set work well but there are slightly better aftermarket options out there if you choose.

If you are thinking about adding that high C string to your bass bag of tricks, the D-6 is a great way to do it without the fear of spending a lot of money on hunch or whim. Try out the D-6, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Our bass player picked this up the other day and let me play it for a while and wow! I thought it would be a fairly decent bass for the price but man it blows you away! Good action, smooth and thin neck so you can go really fast, HUGE low end, this bass has it all. The only thing that threw me off was the neck, its really wide, but that only takes getting used to. Good for slap, good for metal, whatever have you. BUY BUY BUY
