The Electro Harmonix Nano Bassballs Twin Envelope Filter effects pedal has everything you loved about the original Bassballs in a pocket size. The human vocal-like sound of its two sweeping filters gives bass a strong presence under leads, or a commanding quality when out front. The resonant frequencies are engineered solidly into the full range of the bass guitar's strongest harmonics. Bassballs will respond to every bass note. The sweep is widely variable, and harmonic enrichment is available with the distortion switch.

The Nano Bassballs comes in a small, die-cast case with rounded corners, saving valuable pedalboard space. The footswitch selects your original signal or the filtered signal as the Bassballs output. The range of the filters upward sweep in pitch is set by the interaction of instrument volume and the sensitivity control. Both stronger attacks and higher (clockwise) control settings increase the sweep range. Low volume and low sensitivity settings will create little or no sweep, and Bassballs will only provide a small boost in its lowest frequencies. In its upward position, the fuzz switch introduces additional harmonic enrichment that accentuates the filters action. The sensitivity pot also serves as a volume control for the fuzz, also increasing in the clockwise direction.

applications?!?

i am an open minded bass player to say the least. but i've had this pedal for about 2 years and still can't find a valuable application in a live setting. without the drive, pretty much any sens setting sounds like it COULD work, but live you can barely tell that the effect is on unless you're doing a solo or something. with the drive on, you can turn the sens between 11 and 1 o'clock and it sounds cool when you're playing by yourself, but you can't be heard at all with a full band. to me it sounds like noise caused by poor power supply. using active PU's or on-board EQ's make it worse. it needs a D.I. on the pedal itself. AND if i'm not mistaken, active basses have been around for close to 25 years, perhaps it's time to start making bass pedals w/ pad switches.

i give it a 5 for quality because this thing is built like a tank.

I had a go of the Nano Bassballs when i was looking at some new Envelope filters to add to my tonal plate.

Now,first off. It is a Great pedal compared to many others out there and very affordable, but it just didnt cut it in my opinion. The fuzz was awful and even worse with the filters set high.

It would be a massive let down in a live situation.

It isnt bad..if a bit of tweaking was done.

But its Just not my cup of tea.

Step out of the pocket!

I own an older version of this pedal, so besides appearance and dimensions, the specs are exactly the same.

This is a great pedal for those bass players who like to step out of the pocket once in awhile. If your guitarist is playing a fiery solo or a complex rhythmic line with a wah-wah, slap this baby on and give him a run for his money. The tones blend seamlessly.

It works it's best if slapping or playing with a pick, which I do both of at different times. The distortion certainly adds a nice low-end punch to the high bass notes, and works great with guitar, too.

There are only a couple of usable sounds with the bass balls pedals on their own, which which are OK. I find that the pedal sounds best with the response knob between 10 and 3 o'clock with the distortion on. The neat thing about these is that they are very sensative to how you play the strings. I'm using a Schecter Elite 5-string through a bassman amp. Sounds pretty full and funky, even on the low B string. The bass balls really adds a neat texture when layered with other effects though. You can get some very unique sounds, especially when placed in front of other overdrive pedals. I have this placed before a Little Big Muff. Sweet lord. It melts faces.

This pedal was good while I worked on it at home, but when I played it live the filters were too strong and didnt let the fuzz cut through, this was a very disappointing time, I have an active bass, but maybe it doesnt work on active basses, the pedal was good, but didnt sound the same live when I turned it up as it did when the volume was at a lower setting.
