Incorporating the favorite designs of the late Allen Woody of the Allman Brothers Band.
The Epiphone Allen Woody Limited Edition Bass is easy to get around on. Woody, who passed away in August 2000, was an avid collector of vintage Epiphone basses, and this signature model combines the features that Woody found best for playing in his aggressive, rumbling style. It has a semi-hollow, single-cutaway, archtop body similar to that of Epiphone's Kat series but without f-holes. The neck is a 30" short scale for easier play. Mini-humbucking pickups in the neck and middle position deliver a warm tone. Wine red finish with gold hardware.

Just got mine from Musician's Friend last week, and let me tell you, this thing kicks major bottom (if you catch my drift)! Epiphone has, during my lifetime, gone from being a company which manufactured great instruments to being a company that manufactured absolute junk, and now they are back with a vengeance! This bass is fantastic. it is super-easy for any guitarist to adapt to, and i would imagine it would be a great instrument for anyone with smaller hands to begin learning traditional fingerpicked bass on, although I can see where someone with larger hands might want to take a more traditional route.
The sound of this thing is fantastic. Many reviewers here complain that they would like a pickup selector, but I actually like using the two volume knobs to blend the signals from the pups. this thing is easier to fret notes on than most acoustic guitars. Effortless, fast play. And the pictures do not do it justice. This thing GLISTENS under lights. And for anyone who criticizes the perceived "lack of highs", I would just say: use bright strings, try turning your amp's "high" knob (clockwise), remember it is a bass, not a mandolin, and this above all else: to thine own self be true. Happy Rumbling!

i bought this bass back in may WHen i first got it i realized the pictures dont do this bass justice its so much better looking in person. The red mahgony body and neck give it weight but not to much the bone nut is a nice feature but what this bass realy has is amazing pick ups and sustain that last for days(not realy that long but it does ring for a while). Sound is unbeleviable the middle pick up is what i mostly use unless soling then i go for the neck, the chambered body gives this a bass a uniqe sound and for this price it has left my other four bass to same i find my self playing this more than my fender 50s p bass its that good
First, I'm not sure whether I should bow to Epiphone, MF or both. The bass came fully set up and, believe it or not, in tune. I've never bought a new guitar and found it in tune, perfectly intonated, buzz-free and properly set up all around right out of the case...(I thought that was something you had to be rich and famous for). All I had to do was adjust the pickups a bit, but I'm finicky there.
History: for the past few years, I've been eyeballing the RumbleKat...but it was never a priority...
Present: in a recent session, I really wanted to double a bassline with a picked shortscale hollowbody tone, so I finally picked up this lovely instrument. (The bass came three days after the desire descended and is now on that track.)
Nuts and Bolts: it sounds phenomenonally full for a short scale, but with the neck pickup rolled off, the tone at ten and a little sparkle drive used as a high boost it's also very capable of that hip Montgomery Ward's cheapo shortscale thunk.
Very easy to play, great set-up, groovy versatile sound palette...I wouldn't hesitate using it for just about anything but detuned hardcore grind...unless I was thinking about using it as a funky detuned fingerstyle tenor guitar...come to think of it, that's a pretty good idea...
Side note: I bought an Epi about 15 years ago, and the Epi "hardshell" case it came in was total trash. The Epi case on this one is solid and trustworthy...Epi seems to be getting better and better.

I'm a guitarist who was looking for a short scale bass to play simple bass lines on home recordings. Not only did this bass fit the bill but it's made me take playing bass seriously. This sounds wonderful, looks great, and is awonderful value. The transition from guitar to this bass is effortless. I had mine set up with flat wound strings. I love this bass!

This bass simply kicks but. It's beautiful, fun to play, and puts out massive amounts of low end, that will literally shake the earth. If you're looking for ultra clear tone to cut through a mix, look elsewhere, but if you're looking for tons of vibe and fat bottom, this is the one.
