Ebony

Deep, articulate tone and classic semi-hollowbody style are the hallmarks of the Epiphone Jack Casady Signature Bass. The maple body, mahogany center block, set maple neck, and rosewood fretboard conspire to create a sweet-playing bass you won't want to put down. Has a single low-impedance JCB-1 humbucker with VariTone control, as well as traditional volume and tone knobs. Pearloid trapezoid fingerboard inlays, body binding, and Jack's signature across the headstock set it apart.

Jack Casady, electric rock bass player extraordinaire, worked closely with Gibson and Epiphone to create this tasty signature model. It's a long-scale, hollowbody electric bass constructed loosely around his vintage 1972 Gibson Les Paul Signature bass, discovered in a New York instrument shop in the mid '80s. Starting from there, Jack spent a lot of energy working with a pickup designer from Epiphone putting together a new humbucker to reside in his signature model. Together they nailed down a passive pickup and control section that delivered tone so pure and natural it'll give you goose bumps. The pickup is a special low-impedance model (the JCB-1), which produces a bass sound high impedance pickups and active electronics can't match.

The controls - a volume, tone, and versatile VariTone knob - produce enough variation for any situation. The bass has a unique and high-quality transformer with a 3-way impedance selector was used, which eliminates the need for active circuitry while giving the low-impedance signal from the pickup a boost.˙The pickup impedance selector (VariTone) allows for sounds from clear and clean with acoustic vibe to deep, round, and growling rock authority.

The body construction is very unique, too. It's not a true semi-hollow or hollow body, but a hybrid that combines the best from both designs. Under the bridge is a mahogany center block that adds sustain and helps to fight feedback. This construction allows the top to vibrate freely, giving the bass guitar a more natural, woody tone.

The Epiphone Jack Casady Signature Bass is as unique as Jack, with a vibe, tone, and innovative features all its own.

my main workhorses until buying this Epi have been a 65 P and a 2002 fretless jazz. I'm in my 50's now amd have some back problems. I only last about 40 minutes into a gig after wearing the j bass when my neck and back start to go. I had tried several hollow body basses through the years but never found one that measured up until now. This thing is one of the most versatile tone machines I've ever played, from clean and natural,to woody, to big fat and warm. I should have bought one of these 11 years ago. It arrived pretty close to the action I like, but I'm going to put some flatwounds on it. Try one these and you'll wind up buying it!

I recently received my Jack Casady Bass and it came in flawless condition with an absolute perfect set-up. I really enjoy this bass and it's fun to play. That being said, I feel that too many of these reviews are not thinking serious when giving a rating. A 7/10 is a good bass. An 8/10 bass would be a USA Fender P Bass or a Ricky or Gibson. 9/10 basses would be a Gretch G6136B White Falcon with TV Jones pickups and a B7G Bigsby or a G6128B Thunder Jet with same set up. 10/10 is saved for those vintage guitars that make you drool (like the 1968 USA made Gretsch White Falcon or an original 1958 Gold Top Les Paul in mint condition). Having said that, I would defintely recommend that any bass player add a Jack Casady to his/her collection.

A pro-level studio bass

I purchased one of the very first JCB's in the late 90's. It is, hands-down, the best new production bass instrument to come out in years. My bass is very well made. The only setup change I did was file down the bridge slots a bit for the strings to match the fingerboard curvature better. My JCB came with roundwounds, but in order to realize the full amazing tone potential of this bass you MUST use LaBella flatwounds 104-43 gauge. You will be blown away by the difference LaBella flatwound strings make to this bass --trust me. When properly setup and strung with LaBella flats, this bass is usuable for any level of pro session work. If you have a JCB, a P Bass, and a J Bass you are set for any record date.

I have played on several basses, high quality Gibsons, Fenders, but I have never played such an incredible bass. It's sound is fantastic, you can play anything on this bass. I've done shows with this, and it works fantastically. With the price that this is going for, any true bassist should feel the need to buy it. And with the way it looks, it's almost guaranteed to impress anyone who watches.
