The Limited Edition Ripper Bass brings back a Gibson favorite of the '70s. It is an Epiphone creation with a hard maple body and matching maple neck and fingerboard. The back of the neck has a satin finish for smooth feel while the fingerboard has a high gloss polyurethane finish that will protect it for years. A brass nut has been added to increase sustain. Another new wrinkle is a split-coil, single-coil pickup combination with individual volumes, master tone, and 3-way switching for greater tonal range. A great bass from the past with its unique styling and custom touches that enhance performance.

Epiphone Limited Edition Ripper Bass Features:

This Epi-Ripper is.....good. They fixed all the problems with the Original Ripper (Namely, the bridge) had with design. Please! Don't assume this is as good as the Vintage models for tone. It isn't. The Original pickups are a lot better (I own a 1974 Ripper) than these. They convey that warmth that vintage equipment has. The 3 way switch is not an original feature (The original had a 4 way, in a VARITONE switch) The 3 knobs on the original are Volume, Tone, and Midrange roll off. The bridge on this model is a way smarter idea than the original 3 pole bridge. The bushings would wear out on the original, allowing the intonation to go wherever it wanted. It's great that Gibson wanted to bring back the legend, but it should be about both the TONE and the APPEARANCE. If all you want is the shape, get this bass, if you want the Ripper tone, Get a Ripper, or Grabber.

A Heavy Rocker

This bass really seems more expensive than it actually is. It's beautiful looking and it has a very smooth neck. Despite it's wide size it is not that heavy. The pickups are pretty cool but it would be interesting to play an original ripper with humbuckers. Also i didn't find out until recently but i believe Greg Lkae played a Ripper during ELP's Brain Salad Surgery tour in 73-74.

Didn't know anything about the Gibson Ripper, except that one of the Brother Johnson played one. Now, the Epi-Ripper seems like its own orignal creation to me. This bass is well balanced, beautiful attention to detail, like the brass nut, abalone fret inlays, and the sound, full, growlly, clear, dirty, totally versatile. The bass truly feels like a Limited Edition, there is no way Epi can continue production on a brilliant bass like this at this low price forever. Get them while they got'em, else you'll kick yourselve when they are all gone. Perfect bass for any level player, best of a beginner because you won't need another for the rest of your life.

this surprisingly is a very good bass. It is all maple so when it comes to tone, this thing is a beast. i like the 3-way toggle switch, it makes it a lot easier to kill the signal at practice. The satin finish on the back of the neck is great, smoother than babys' skin. its very comfortable, despite its size. Im always commented on the size, but if you wear it at the right height, it looks great. One flaw is its a bit top-heavy, but a good strap can fix it in a jiffy.price is nice and low too

I have played this bass by way of a friend. I wasn't expecting much by the total difference between this and my Gibson G-3. Good playability and tone for an epiphone, and I prefer the pickups on the vintage models. However, if you dont want to spend the money on a real vintage, this is the way to go.
