I have always wanted a Thunderbird but could never afford one. Was never really impressed with the Epiphone Thunderbirds...until now. Bought one in sunburst 10 minutes after playing it. The neck-thru construction and active electronics give it amazing tone and sustain. Frankly, I don't see how they can make this bass for what they charge ? Mine needed some extra set up. Get the fitted case (nothing else fits). You will not be sorry.

I just bought my new Epi Thunderbird. I must say it's a badass. If you play Rock n Roll, Hard Rock or Metal, then it's the bass you're looking for. The sustain is perfect and you'll get at last the fatness, shape and heaviness you've been looking for your sound, but it doesn't mean you won't get definition. The active system must provide an extra-definition it didn't used to have (passive system). If you play rock, this is the bass you must buy. If you play jazz, funk or anything like that, find yourself another bass.

The only problem is its size and its weight. I also have a P-bass and the Thunderbird it's much bigger and heavier. You'll have to buy the Epiphone hardshell case because it doesm't fit in any other case.

The Epiphone Pro IV B bass is a) a great bass, b) a great value, and c)a real Thunderbird in the Gibson Thunderbird tradition. I can state this because I own a Gibson Thunderbird as well.I bought the natural oil finish, which arrived in beautiful condition. You may want to have a professional set up done, as the action is a tad high from the factory. The active pre amp gives a wide palette of tonal variety, and the instrument demands attention wth the beautiful 7 piece neck thru design.

THIS GUITAR IS EXTREMELY LONG. Its is 49" from the top of the headstock to the end of the body and will not fit in many different cases. I wish I had known that before I ordered and had to return my Gator Bass Tour case I ordered for it. The guitar looks amazing. The fit and finish is right up there with guitars costing twice as much. It sounds as good as it looks. You can get many different tones with it from slap bass to deep blues tones or even crunchy metal. It is neck heavy and tends to neck dive quite a bit, and is not as well balanced as my Ibanez, but I can get used to it.

This is a NICE axe. I'm not the most experienced bass player but I bought this because of what I'd read about the features. GREAT for the price.

I will warn prospective buyers of a couple things:

* I bought this with the Musician's Gear generic hardshell bass case, and it doesn't fit. Actually, this guitar, because of the weird shape presumably, is too long for most cases/gig bags.

* The Vintage burst looks pretty different in person. It's a lot darker and warmer than the pics make it look. Personally, I like it better, but it almost looks more like rosewood or something than maple and walnut. Again, super cool anyway.

Lovin' the active pups, jack on the side, tone controls. BUY this shizzat.
