I am 23 and have been playing bass for 13 of those years. Ive had a few guitars since started. About 5 years ago i picked up this bass and will never need another. The sound is amazing, the play is smooth, and the applications for this guitar are endless. My only problem is I can not find a drop switch for this bass without modifying either the guitar or switch. Email me if you can hook me up with that.
amazing, pure and simple, clean

Im a 14 year old bass player. This bass is 110% what you would expect from fender. Both the split and jazz pickups sound crisp and clean, played alone or in combonation. The neck is silky smooth and wont bother you at all. Ive had the bass since last chistmas and have had nothing but good things to say about it. Friends jelous and lets be honest its a beauty thats easy to clean. Works well with high gauge strings as well.
An incredibly versatile instrument you won't regre

I bought Fender Aerodyne Jazz Bass almost a year ago because I had read many positive reviews of it, and because two of my favorite bass players plays it. This year I have used it in an industrial metal and a rock band, as well as for worship in church, where we play mostly pop and ghospel, and and I couldnt me more satisfied.
THe P/J pickup combination on this bass enables it to pump insane metal basslines, with the punch of a P-bass as well as the articulation and the high freqencies of a J-bass, that sounds good both with and without distortion (of which I mainly use Boss bass drive and Big Muff). If you use the tone filter and cut off the highs a bit, you get more groovy sounds, well suitable for soul and ghospel. The pickups works great separate as well, the P-pickup, delivers classic P-bass tones ,naturally enough, while you may get sweet Jaco style jazz tones by using just the J-pickup.
AS for slap playing, I was a bit impressed as I had heard this was a terrible slap bass. Althogh I understand that people may dislike the slap tone of this bass, as it is a bit different than a lot of others, I personally like the tone.
As for playability, this is the best bass I've played so far, and the light weight of it makes it even better using onstage (and carrying to practise).
The only things that I'm not satisfied with concerning this bass is that the J-pickup has a slight hum to it, but this is only noticeable at high volumes. In addition, the jack input ocassionally loosens, but this is easily fixed.
Despite this, I think this instrument is worth every dollar I paid for it.
This is an incredibly versatile instrument that you won't regret buying.
incredible

I am primarily a short scale player. My main ride is a mustang bass. But this neck is Incredible. I would say as comfortable as an ibanez soundgear (but sounds like a fender). I can do all the same fast runs as easily on this bass as the mustang. Excellent tonal characteristics. PIckups are punchy, snappy, and the p-pickup has some growl. Tone leans more towards modern than vintage. Fender's most cutting edge bass in my opinion- design and tone wise.
Tone Sweet Tone...

I am mainly a guitarist but have been playing bass almost as long. For most of that time I had a 78 Rickenbacker 4001 burgundy which played really nice and had that sweet tone. That was something I didn't think I could find in any other bass out there, especially a Fender. I never went for the thumpy low sound of the P bass or the brighter but duller sound of the J bass that I had come to think of them. Wow was I surprised with this. First off, due to finances, I let the Ricky go last summer so wanted something I could afford with the remainder of the money and I saw an Aerodyne in the local shop. I was impressed by the looks of it but the tone was unreal. So unlike what I had expected. So I bought one used. Mine is the previous offer with the output jack going out at a 90 degree versus the newer design using the Strat angular plate. That being said they are pretty much the same. Such wonderful tones and it was already set perfectly, all I did was put on some new strings and I was able to get some wonderful bottom end with some really bright treble, especially off the upper register on the D and G strings. Exactly what I like. One note, when volumes are full on, the overall volume output drops slightly. Backing off the J pickup just a smidge straightens that out in a hurry. A very nice player, very comfortable neck. The looks can't be beat! Love the no fret markers even though it can foul me up sometimes. Overall, I didn't think I was going to find a bass to equal my long gone Rick but I feel I made the right choice. These things are going up in price too. Fender knows they got a good one here. When I can afford I'm going to pick up the Precision model, in blue, as well.
