This American Standard Series P Bass V 5-string has a vintage body radius and contour for a classic vibe and feel. The body is rendered in premium alder for optimum tone and sustain. Its rosewood or maple fretboard features detailed fret and nut work. The neck is graphite-reinforced and has rolled edges for a broken-in feel from the get-go. HMV Bridge (high mass vintage) increases sustain, provides punchier tone, beefier looking plates and 3/8" diameter vintage saddles. String height adjustment screws have nylon patches for a tight fit that won't vibrate loose.

A 12-gauge cold rolled steel plate machined brass backstop increases mass, enhances top end. Socket head intonation screws are engineered for a tighter fit, and are now more stable. Features new Fender design tuning keys. The work great, and are 30% lighter, minimizing neck dip. Classic 20:1 tuning ratio, cast zinc with aluminum string posts and mounting nuts, and steel clovers. Brass worm gears, steel worm drives.

With a thinner undercoat, the American Standard P Bass body breathes easier and has improved sound (more wood influence). Neck pocket paint buildup has been reduced by 40%, greatly improving the wood to wood connection/reaction.

The included SKB rectangular design case, exclusive to Fender, has TSA recognized and accepted locks. Fiberglass reinforced nylon trigger release latching system, indestructible cushioned rubber over-molded handle with flush lock out. Injection molded feet and exclusive arched stacking system.

I've tried this bass at a local music store excited to play the 5 string p bass. I own a p bass of my own a MIA 4 string. And i LOVE IT, so i expect to love the 5 string as well... Well I do like it a lot bot not love it, it is a great bass don't get me wrong, but i would like more options and more tone. I played this after I played a 5 string Music Man Stingray and I have to say they came close but overall the Music Man won my heart, but this is a memorable bass indeed!!

I play classic rock and my workhorse bass was a '78 P bass. Great tone and it played well. When Fender came out with the Precision V, I read a review in a guitar magazine and the critic had nothing bad to say about it. I went to the music store and played one. The tone was what you'd expect from a P bass. I was happy about that. The five string was very easy to adapt to, alot easier than I thought it would be. I bought the Candy Cola with the maple fretboard. I think it looks killer. Now, I've retired my '78 P bass and use the five string exclusively.

I do not own this bass but I have a friend who owns it and I have used it at gigs. This bass is good for any style of music, the neck is so smooth and the tone is fantastic. My friend and I have used this bass for christian rock, country, classic rock, and I firmly beleive it would sound good for any other style of music.

I play 5's exclusively, but I did have an American Precision 4, because everyone needs a Precision, right? I sold it when they brought out the 5's and ordered mine here on Musician's Friend. It has the classic P-Bass sound that is in such high demand. The bass is truly a work of art. The back of the neck on mine is smoothe and slick, unlike a previous review. The fit and finish are what you'd expect from an American P-Bass - Exceptional. The frets are finished well along the edge of the fretboard and the new bridge is a welcome improvement. I have had two problems which are the reason quality was rated at 4 instead of 5. 1) When I changed the strings to my preferred SIT set, a ferrule fell out of the bottom of the bass. Fixed that with a toothpick. 2) It has one high fret, 18th fret in fact. I'll have to get a tech to do a fret-level on it to take care of that one.

All in all, I am pleased though and don't plan on ever selling this one. It's a keeper.

I ordered this bass and had high expectations... they were not fulfilled. The example I received was well constructed and beautiful to look at but about as musical as a wet stump. The body did not resonate at all and the sustain was non-existent. Even my wife, a non-musician-remarked how "dead" it sounded. Granted, it was set-up quite poorly out of the box, but even after dialing it in the improvement was marginal. Also, the back of the neck had an awful, gummy feel to it. It would have taken years of playing or a good sanding to make it comfortable. Add to all this a pretty hefty weight and a somewhat loose feeling B string (at least in comparison to my other 35" scale basses) and sending it back was a no-brainer.
