This amp is one of the most tone-full amps I've ever had, has the power to really shake a 8x10 cabinet to it's limits, has some really good features, that take some time to fully understand, and once you spend some time with the controls, you'll be able to dial in any tone/sound you want, this amp has a very user friendly biasing set-up ( you'll need a digital multimeter ) this amp will play with ANY speaker combination, as the ohm's are 8-4-2, the weight is typical of a large tube amp, but it is a small pentally to pay to get this type of sound, aside from the slight smell of paint burning in, for the first few hours, there really isn't much negative to say about this amp, all the features can be controlled with the foot-switch, which means you can set-up different sounds and have them ready when needed, the clean channel is one of the best sounding clean channels you'll ever experience, big full and wide sounding, with a-lot of headroom, the dirty channel is blend-able into the clean channel, so you can really control the amount of grit in your tone, the compressors will give you that extra punch, if needed, the amp is very quiet, no fan ...but it does put out some heat, as it is convection cooled, but that is expected with a large tube amp, if your on the edge of trying to decide on what amp to buy, and like to fiddle with your sound, this is the amp to get, ...couldn't be happier!!!!!

Ok, hands down best tone of any bass amp available. The volume this thing pumps out is enormous. I originally bought two 4x10 cabs for this head but using only one cab, I drown out the entire band!! The only bad thing about this head is the weight. I know, all tube amps are heavy but this thing is a monster. Im a big guy and I usually have another person help me move it!! yeah, its that heavy. Get this amp!!

Incredible

I bought this about three weeks ago, and every single time I play it I love it more. I've gigged twice and practiced with the whole band twice, and of course logged many hours practicing solo. It just sounds incredible. It is fat, fat, fat--every note is just huge and immediate and hits you in the gut. It can get loud enough to deafen you, but even on 2.5 played through a single 12" cab, the thing thuds. One note: for the first six or seven hours of use, it smells like a woodstove burning the paint in--not terrible, just hot, and it probably actually *is* the heat from the tubes setting the paint on the housing. No biggie, and it goes away.

After many Heads. Ampeg Classic, Pro3, Mark Bass LMII, Gallien Kruger, Fender Bassman 400 I have found nirvana. This is it. Lok no further. Great tube fat sound, best headroom around, and throw in a real equalizer, compressor and for less$ than an Ampeg Classic let alone the VR and you have the best deal out there. Heavy yes, but it is so sweet you and anyone listening will love it.

I've owned 2 original SVT's, Marshall's VBA 400, still have a Hiwatt 200 Custom, but nothing touches the flexibility and sheer power of this amp! This amp combined with a Rickenbacker, and secondly most fender basses, is incredible! This amp will never cease to amaze!
