A deluxe version of Fender's best-of-both-worlds bass.

The Fender Deluxe P Bass Special 4-String Bass has a Jazz neck, a P Bass body, and a P/J combination pickup array with Vintage Noiseless pickups and active electronics. The P body is a little smaller and lighter, the J neck slimmer and faster, and the combined pickups give you just that much more to play with. A gold vinyl pickguard sets the Deluxe P Bass apart visually, and its satin-finish neck feels worn in from the get-go.

Pretty nice, but....

This bass is very nice, but mine had some quality issues. The wood around one strap screw splintered, and i had to use wood putty to fix it. My output jack and volume pot went shot as well. But on the brighter side of things, excellent response and sound from both the low end and high end. Overall, a decent bass for the price

I already have a standard precision and a jazz and this one rounds it all out! You can get just about any sound out of this bass from the bottom end "thud" to a top end "twang". Range is outstanding and it's looks are just sweet!! (I have the blizzard pearl). All in all a VERY nice 4 string!!

I thought this was a good idea by Fender and it was as far as Fender basses were concerned! I've had this bass for well over a year, but have had a couple issues: one of the screws holding the strap in place came loose and I had to use some putty to reattach it and also the screws holding the battery compartment compartment closed also came loose. It also seems to me that the the strings may not be aligned right so I moved the nut slightly. This was a slight upgrade to my $200 soundgear and the Jazz neck still has the C-shape making it not quite as nimble but still very playable. The best part is the sound which is very bright and dynamic. The fully adjustable pickups are the best thing about this guitar!

I've been playing fenders for over 15 years now, and this is defiantly the best of both worlds. I thought that my modified jazz was my one and only. (1/4 lb bass lines, bad ass II, graphite nut) I also have a Precision Bass, with the same treatment, that sat in the corner because the fatter neck wore me out, but I loved the tone. Then I got a hold of this, and now it is now my main bass. Super fast neck, unbelievable/never ending tone, and the blizzard pearl looks great under the stage lights. Plug this bass to any Ampeg (SVT-4 Pro, 8x10 classic) and you are set to play anything that comes your way.

This is a great bass.When it arrived It was not set up properly. However that was not a problem, also you should change the strings. I put DR High beams on it and it sounds great! I would recommend giving your bass and the new strings a grace period of about month. Afterwards that Great Fender P sound can be enjoyed! This bass does give you the best of both worlds(Jazz and P bass sounds).The bass is built like a truck! Can handle any genre of music!
