Pearl White, Back Pearl White, Closeup Pearl White, Headstock

Designed for the man who has earned his place in rock history by holding down the low end for bands such as Guns N' Roses and Velvet Revolver, Fender's Duff McKagan Signature Bass Guitar is rock and roll all the way.

Based on the instrument he has used ever since the first GNR album, the Duff McKagan Signature bass is a distinctive, sleek, and full-sounding reissue of the '80s-era Jazz Bass Special, which combined a Precision Bass body with a Jazz Bass neck and a set of Precision and Jazz Bass pickups. That's all here, with a Pearl White finish, gloss-black neck and headstock, TBX circuit (treble/bass cut), black hardware, and custom skull-engraved neck plate.

Actually I own one of the original "89" Fender Power Jazz Bass Specials and while browsing through the local music store I came across one of these. It played and sounds very close to my PJBS which honestly surprised me a bit since the original is from Japan. Like mine the sound was easy to dial in and get just about anything your twisted little heart desires. The feel and workmanship is nearly identical to the original but the have removed some of the controls and thus you cannot get the full range of sounds my bass can get. The neck was again a bit lacking in overall playability from mine but evenly balanced and solid from top to bottom. The dirty low down is this, if you can't find one of the originals then this is by far the closest thing to it you will ever find. Lots of manufacturers offer a P/J combo but Fender did it first and,as usual, best.

This ia and excellent bass. I have owned other Fenders and this one by far has the best tonally range. It is amazingly light but has more bottom end than some higher priced basses. For sure one of the better buys out there relating to name brand basses. Truely worth the price tag attached to it.

Overall a decent unit. The nut width is NOT 1.5in. it is 1 5/8ths in! so not a Jazz neck a Precision neck in look/feel - hard to understand that one.

Fairly light weight. And the Toggle Switch is NOT a problem. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it. And you don't have to use it. Use like a regular Jazz bass with 2vols/1 tone, with the toggle in the middle.

Tone Pot felt like the internal parts were not working right like the mechanical arm that runs along the coil had allot of play in it. So not sure if would fail or was OK that way.

The skull on the neck plate is a bit juvenile and would have switched that out if I had kept it. But sent it back since I think I got the one below me who sent his back; but not before he possibly or someone else removed the neck to adjust the bow, (adjusted from the bottom of the neck a real negative point), and when he/she reattached the neck, crushed the finish a bit under it as well as a scrape on the neck itself.

And as I always do: - I A/B compared it to a Squire Afinity Jazz bass. Tone, weight, playability absolutely identical. Actually the Squire was faster with the real Jazz neck, better action with no bow in that neck - how I like it. The only visible difference was the Fret wire on the Squire is maybe 1mm narrower. And the bridge plate has much larger string holes drilled in it on this MZ unit. Almost looks like the string balls could pull though it? Absolutely the same tonal range/punch though using an Eden Combo.

I ordered this bass expecting it to look like the picture. It ended up being a glossy, sparkly, pale yellow, which I did not like. The headstock and neck are both glossy, but they look sweet. It felt less solid than my Fender Highway One jazz. On the positive side it has a lot of great tones to it. It's nice having P and J pickups on one bass. Like the other reviewers said the toggle switch feels a bit loose.

The Duff Man has got some really good taste. I'm usually a Jazz Bass man myself, but the P/J pickup configuration in my opinion is the best setup tonal wise. Excellent, yet simple color scheme. I love the white with black! Classic Fender, Classic Duff! I'm usually not a Rotosound guy either (Dean Markley and DR for me!) but if I can get Duff's gritty rock tone with this bass and some Rotos then I'm sold.
