not bad, but not satisfied

I bought this bass about 10 months ago. When I first got it I was just so excited to finally have a fender j that I didnt care how the quality was. Tone and sound wise you just can't beat a fender j. It sounds great as would any bass with the fender j pickups, and it is versatile(more so than a p bass by far). However I got my neck with a slight bow in it and an unbelievably high action (which i got lowered but even lowered its still pretty high). I play for theatres and a local church which it is perfect for. However I also play in a hardcore band and occasionally in the midst of a show I feel the neck shift, which is a very scary feeling. Overall it is probably better than the mexi standard for around the same price but i suggest just saving up for an american model.

I bought this bass last year to play in a Spanish Folk band with friend of mine. I considered selling it this week, because that band broke up, and I'm a guitarist, but decided to play it again last night for fun. I couldn't put it down. This bass is GREAT(for what I know about the instrument) and for a MIM, it is flawless. No problems at all. Someone else posted that it is rather heavy. I disagree completely. I have played a standard J-bass, and those a anchors compared to this.

Pick it up if you have a chance!

Great sustain and tone but heavy

First off it's got the Jazz tone and vibe. A little noisier than a USA as shielding isn't as detailed but you can fix that in an afternoon. As others have noted, the stock bridge is a little lacking, a vintage threaded or aftermarket cast style is better. (I put a Gotoh on mine) One thing you need to realize is that this is not a lightweight swamp ash body, it's heavy. If you have issues with a heavy instrument, try it out before you buy is my recommendation. Other than that, I love mine.

The FSR arrived today, and I was blown away by the quality and beauty of the bass. It came with a tortoise shell pick guard which gives it a nice 70's retro look, very cool. The neck has a nice semi-gloss finish; much nicer and thinner than my 1997 fretless Jazz bass. The bass has good playability right out of the box, but with a good pro setup it should play like butter. The pickups hummed a bit when the neck volume was down and the bridge volume was up. Although, when both pickups were turned up there was no hum whatsoever. The ash body is stunning and resonates nicely. Overall, for quality, looks, and value you can't beat it.

I ordered this bass sight unseen and was pleasantly surprised. Right out of the box, the truss rod adjustment was perfect for my taste, a slight intonation adjustment and it was good to go. No issues with the hardware so far. I waited until I owned, and played it for over a year to write this review, because I wanted to make sure that "new bass smell" had worn off. The wood grain sections line up great and are difficult to see if you aren't looking close. In my opinion, this bass is well worth the money.
