Hum/Noise On MM Jazz BAss

When i received this beautiful bass, i loved it. the only problem was that it had a distinct hum every time i plugged it in. It Really affected the sound. i took the bass to a music repair guy twice, and he couldn't find anything wrong with it. said it was the single coil pickups. DO NOT be fooled. I then took my bass to the guitar player in my band who does repair work at a music shop. And it seemed that Fender took a shortcut, not putting a wire from underneath the bridge to the volume control. It's as quite as anything now. This bass is amazing and if your gigging regulary, i Recommend you Buy IT :) You wont be let down.

Simply Amazing

I noticed a previous review mentioning that if you pick this bass up and play it you will fall in love. Absolutely true! If you are a jazz bass fan (and how can you not be?) this is about as good as it gets, in my opinion. I have had four Fender jazz basses over the last ten years and I like this one the most by far. The fit/finish is truly exceptional. It feels very solid and well constructed. The feel of this bass is quite wonderful as well. It has a great neck. Just the right size for me, thin but not too thin (i.e. Geddy Lee jazz bass). The preamp and pickups are great as well. Plenty of tight low end and lots of twangy mids/highs (it should be noted that it seems to be biased towards the highs a bit more than most other jazz basses I've played. The maple fretboard plays a big part in too, though.). This thing really is a funk machine, but being a jazz bass means it is versatile enough for just about anything. Also, I love the active passive switch. I probably would not have purchased it without one. I am generally not a big fan of active electronics but having the option available to me now, I find myself using the preamp more and more. The major downside of this bass (which is currently the major downside of all other Fender products as well) is the price. After the 20-30% price hike, this thing is not cheap (thanks Fender!). However, if you have the means and are in the market for a well-rounded jazz bass, please do yourself the favor of checking this baby out. You won't regret it!

Weak preamp

I noticed when I played on the Marcus Miller Jazz it had a annoying hum. A friend of mind put in a Bartolini preamp and pickups. WOW it was totally quiet and sounded like the Marcus signature tone. What a Thumping Machine. Now it sounds as good as it looks.

This thing is not only beautiful, but comfortable, easy to play, sounds amazing and is extremely versatile. The tone is so warm and funky and the neck is so smooth. You will fall in love with this bass the first time you pick it up. I've had this thing for like four years and although the price has gone up quite a bit, it's still worth every penny. You can use it for punk, jazz, slap, metal, blues... it works for every application you can put it through and trust me I think I have. Oh and the baddass II bridge is insanely awesome. I replaced all the bridges on my other basses with it. The intonation is just rediculous.
