The unique bass of a unique artist. |
Mike Dirnt has a style all his own and he makes his music with Green Day on the very distinctive Fender Mike Dirnt Precision Bass. Combining a vintage vibe and modern appointments, it has medium-jumbo frets, a Badass II top-load bridge, rosewood fingerboard, and '51 slab ash body with arm contour. Very cool. Perfect Punk Bass, But . . .

I spotted this little beauty in 2-tone sunburst yesterday. First off, Mike Dirnt is my idol and if it weren't for him, I wouldn't be playing bass. I'm a P-Bass lover and I knew I'd love his signature. First, it's a beautiful instrument and I love 50's style P-Basses. The neck is the thickest thing I've ever felt and It was a perfect feel in my hands. The body is pretty heavy, but it makes it sound better. The Custom Shop '59 pickup had a lot of output and sounds just like Mike's tone. However, the p-up was a bit too trebly for my taste, and I feel it lacked bass. Hey, it's the perfect punk bass, but I play more than just punk and I like something with a little more versitility. Amazing bass! But try it first.

First of all, I am a mike dirnt fan, but that is nto why I bought this bass, I'm a serious player and I have my reasons. First off, Alot of you complain about the tone, I'm not sure what your taking about truthfully. with the treble up high this bass has a strong punch and even matches up with an active bass(by comparison to my active fender jazz), the bottom end has a strange growly tone, which i've actually come to really like. People also complain about the sound out of the box, being to bright and snappy....SERIOSULY? It's a signature bass, for those of you familiar with mikes work, the bright sound is quite similar to his common tone, its suppost to be a mke dirnt signature bass, not a plain ole P bass.
Since I've bought this bass I've played slap, pick, finger, and even tap, and all work fine with the bass, For playing slap, with the treble up it sounds really funky, tapping works surprisingly well with both the bottom or the treble up, Fingering is smooth, and with picking you get excellent tone, its fairly obvious this bass was more desigfned with pickign in mind. All in all I thinjk the bass is great, and those of you complaining about the tonal pallet are damn crazy. Looks great too, love the vintage body style.

Just bought a brand new Fender Mike Dirnt P bass in two-tone sunburst and it impresses the hell out of me. I also play a 76 P-bass and can say that "old" Fenders are not better than new ones. This Mike Dirnt has a better sustain and more low, simply because of the Badass II bridge. It also has a much better neck and finishing than my 1976 model, so I guess that you will not see me play the " vintage" one much longer !

I've been playing this bass for almost a year and it is AWESOME!!!! It has a great tone for most rock, especially punk. In fact my only problems with it are that it doesn't slap too well (but it sounds decent) and that it's a little heavy but easy to get used to after a while. Other than that it's a great bass definately worth the money.

I got this bass last september in vintage white and it has never let me down. Its just a simple p-bass with a tone and volume knobs and thats it. Its fun to play and the c shape neck makes you stretch your fingers more. Overall this is a good bass.
