I Own this bass. about a month after i got it the screws on the bridge fully striped out and went through the holes, but i don't hold that against the bass, It has a great feel and a great tone to it, i tried out a lot of different bass that day and still found my self going home with the MIM fender p bass and love it. Btw Fender needs to run the strings through the body or drop the price on the MIM again

I have been playing bass for 8 years. I currently play a 4003 Rickenbacker which I play through an Orange AD200B head. I usually don't write reviews, but I felt inclined after reading the others on this bass. I recently sold my 80's p bass and had remorse. I decided I needed another one. I sat down at a local shop today and A & B'd the Mexican and American and to be honest I could not find a difference in craftsmanship or tone. I went home with the Arctic White MIM. The dealer said the only difference is hardware. All the old vintage p basses we covet don't have string through bodies so that is not a weakness in this bass. my Rick doesn't either and it's tone is about as coveted as any. My point is, this bass is about as good a deal as it gets. Fat, vintage p bass sound, great quality build. You could drop American pickups in it for cheap (If you felt the need) and it would be the exact same as an American. All the other guys complaining about tone probably don't play through great gear. A & B this with an American through and all-tube head and you will not find a difference. You will be totally stoked going home with the MIM. Pick up a Mexican made one and use the money you save towards an all-tube head and let that p bass tone shine! Even a Rickenbacker sounds like crap through mediocre gear. I hope this helps any of you who are indecisive.

Mad Mike Speaks about MIM P Bass

This is a good bass for the money, although it's much harder to say that with the recent price increase. On the good side, you get a pretty decent tone with this bass, and playability is excellent. The neck is much thinner then an American P, which makes it easier to play.

Now for the bad, the tone isn't as good as an American P, but no suprise there. If Fender would make a change and allow the strings to go through the body on this model like they do the American, this would help the tone and feel a ton and make this the best buy in the universe. But, they must justify the price difference between this and the American, so they will never do that.

I would gladly pay more for it if they would make the string through body an option though. Fender, please hear me on this!

Anyone buying these?

Is anyone buying these basses at these incredibly awkward rip-off prices? It's a decent bass, but they jacked the price up so high that it's not worth it at all! Is anyone still buying them? I wouldn't buy this bass because I'm not an amateur anymore, but geesh!
