I've owned this bass for over a year now and it still surprises me sometimes! I'll be playing with the contols looking for a new sound and out jumps a great new tone! With the active/passive, series/parallel, and the pickup selector, you can pretty much get any sound.

This bass was all I needed for how much cash I had. However I took it to the studio and was not impressed with the tone I got. This of course is my opinion. I got a Musicman about a year later and was set for life. This bass is great if cash is an issue, but I would recomend saving your money.

This bass has amazing tone, beautiful depth, and plays like a dream. Didn't need any setup or adjustment. It is amazingly versatile, being a great fit for rock, country or jazz. I have played the L 2000 (non-tribute) and found virtually no difference, certainly nothing to make me want to "trade up". A great value and sweet instrument.

I tried this out at a store. The neck was really really nice but the electronics were unimpresive for the price. The humbuckers have a nice sound but none of the switches or knobs seemed to have much effect. Both pickups sounded pretty much the same, the EQ did very little and the series/parallel did even less. I think that having two huge humbuckers dampens the strings a bit. But, the basic sound was quite nice.

Tribute by G&L L-2000 Bass; This is a sturdy, excellent-sounding, easy-to-play instrument. You can get a lot of different sounds from the active/passive electronics. The swamp ash with natural finish looks really nice. If a had twice the money to spend, I would buy the American-made version of the same instrument. The only complaints I have are that the available documentation that I've found is really skimpy; it took me awhile to figure out what each toggle switch and knob does. Also, mine was not setup very well; intonation was way off on one string (and a bit off on another) plus the "saddle lock" set screw on the side of the bridge was falling out. This was all fairly easily remedied. I definitely recommend this to anyone shopping for a bass in this price range.
