Not all bassists are cut out for mega-stage stardom or studio grandeur. The legions of cover-band players out there make up the vast majority, and this is an instrument for those who play 4 sets a night. All of the great tones of the last 50 years are found within this axe, which sports a P-style body with J-style pickups and neck, which has 21 frets (so that high E is there), and graphite reinforcement. My only complaint is that Hipshot does not make an exact matching Xtender for the G&L tuners, but that is not G&L's fault. I have owned the Tribute version of this instrument, and it was very tried and true. I would recommend the Tribby to a younger player, or as a second axe. I have owned lots of basses, you name it I've played it. The JB-2 ( american version ) is a standout. The tone is perfect for just about any type of music out there and this bass can deliver it. The neck is the smallest you will find that is still strong enough to hold the settings. I also own an older Rick 4001 and these two complement each other like no others. The only issue I had was with the factory when I ordered it, for some reason Leo Fender before he passed stated that no JB-2 bass would be sold with gold-plated hardware. I argued and argued to no avail. Other than that you can't buy a better bass for the money. Do yourself a favor and try it through a couple of Acoustic 370 amps with the 301 bottoms....yummy !

I own a JB-2 4, it is an outstanding bass, both for live and the studio. The tone takes you back to the great sounds of the 60's & 70's bass masters. The bass plays like a dream, and the quality is beyond words. This is one of the finest American Made basses and I fully recommend it for the player who wants the feel, sound and the tradition established by the master of the Electric Bass, LF. What I really enjoy is the weight and balance of the Bass, it is so comfortable... especially after a few 1-hour sets. This is a Bass every player should add to their collection and I can guarantee it will not end up hanging on your wall our in a closet. It is a monster!
