WOW!!!

I'll start by saying that for YEARS my main go to bass is a vintage 75 Jazz--talk about a Geddy Lee series--this is the real thing!! She's my baby, & I have not played ANY bass yet that I would trade her for, & I have played them all. Along with her, I have a great sounding/playing P-bass, & a pretty decent fretless Jazz. I decided to add a 5 string to my arsenal, & of course my first consideration was a Fender. So I demo'd several-- US, MIM, Jazz, Pbass--played some nice basses. I then remember Leo's hand in the MusicMan Stingray, & tried a few of those in the Sterling series--nice basses, too, but didn't steal my heart. Then G&L came to my attention, & I started reading up on them. I read what ALOT of Fender men had to say about hands on experiences, and what Leo himself had to say about his know-how & hindsight that went into the G&L's. So I made the plunge--bo't an L2500 Tribute w/o ever touching one. Mine wasn't ready to play out of the box--had to adjust the neck, & raise the action to rid string buzz. NOT A BIG DEAL!! Now she's ready, but no time to home test her--I took her straight to a gig with wrenches & a knob/switch diagram for instruction. As I was setting up, my buddy was asking "How does it play? Good?" I couldn't tell him--never played it B4. 3 songs into the gig, I had come to grips with the 5th string, the string spacing, and the wider neck. My pre-gig adjustments turned out 2B just right, and only 1 word came to mind--WOW!!! My buddy was grinning and told me that no other bass I owned sounds like this one...EVEN BABY!! Since then, I've spent some practice time with it, & I still say WOW!!! Lot's of different tone options, and the series/parallel switch seems like a jekyl/hyde switch. Playing the L2500 makes U think differently, and play beyond yourself-- it's inspiring!! The deluxe gig bag is a great gig bag, but I'd rather have the G&L case. The only cons that I have with this purchase is the 2 women in my life--my wife for my spending the $$, & my J-baby for cheatin on her! but WOW!!!

I bought one of these to replace my aging and well abused Johnson because of the review in Bass Player Magazine. It was everything they said it would be and then some. For the price it has every bell and whistle I could think of, providing not only a spot-on Music Man sound but also a heavy Fender sound as well. It plays like a thick P bass with a nearly identical body and was one of the first basses I ever bought that did not need tweaking on the intonation or string height. The only consideration one should make before purchase is to be prepared to hang a HEAVY axe around your neck. If that's not an issue then buy it without worry. I have the blue burst with maple fretboard and it looks as good as it plays. Leos final legacy in the bass dept does him proud.

Ok, I know when u read reviews that sound "too good to be true", u can't help but be skeptical. I ordered this bass a few months ago in the natural gloss finish with the maple fretboard-BeeUTIFUL! As an active musician and bass enthusiest, I'll put this G&L Tribute series L2500 bass up against anything, even basses twice as expensive. Now if u want INSANE quality ull go with custom basses like Carvin or Sadowski that cost four times as much, but its clear that in this price range and more, you can't buy a better bass. The quality is just about flawless, and the tone options with this bass can't be beaten. This is Leo Fender's greatest innovation in your hands. Besides the vintage Fender basses from the 60's and early 70's, (before he sold the company), G&L is the TRUE incarnation of how Fenders were INTENDED to be designed and built. If you decide to go with the Tribute G&L, or any other model from G&L, you CANT GO WRONG-seriously it will be the best decision you could ever make with an inexpensive bass with unbelievable quality fit for any professional.

Better Bass within the US$1800 range

This bass is the best bass within a US$1800 price range. It's so versatile it's dozens of basses in-one. Also, its quality is so close to the US-made G&L's that it has an even better value. If you want a Fender American Jazz/Precision bass, it sounds like one; if you want a Music-Man Stingray/Sterling, it sounds like one; if you want a Warwick, it sounds like one. It's the perfect bass within this price range. Really, you don't even need to waste the extra bucks on the US-made.
