Big and expensive is not necessary better sometimes. This head sound amazing with very little effort and tweaking. It`s got the right controls to help you find your tone in no time.Paired with a decent cabinet will give you plenty of volume for most venues(I`m playing with a 1 X 15 at 8 ohms only and it blast)no overheating problems(just don`t cover the top of the amp where the fan is located, common sense)Again I love the tone of this head,IMO is the best solid state tone in its class, warm and round. The overdrive channel is usable only at low volume for what I play(rock, blues)but for the price, the regular channel is all I need.Small, not too heavy, solid, good tone and powerfull.Hey, this little head is a winner hands down.

I got this head along with the goldline 410 from my friend who "had no use" for it anymore. This was MY first real rig up until then I always had to borrow other bassists' equipment. It was pretty embarrassing, but it did allow me to see almost every brand out there. Ampeg, Markbass, Carvin, Eden, Ashdown, you name it, I've played it, but none matched the great growl and clarity I got from GK. I play in a band where the two guitarists harmonize EVERYTHING, with really complex and technical melodies, so I have to hear my basslines cut through. My setup consists of an ancient Fender P Bass (a '79 to be exact) powered by active EMG's. I came through, so much so that my band members often told me to turn down. I was crushed when my friend asked for his rig back. But thanks to the four months of weekender shows (I'm still in high school by the way) and weekday practices, I am a lifelong GK fan. Now that its been some time, I'm fixin' to get the goldline 810 with the goldline series head. But in all honestly, you really can't go wrong with this head, for the price its the best without a doubt. But like everyone else says, due to the just plain awkward placement of the fan, it tends to get hot. Luckily it only cut out on me three times but, never at a show. It was always hot after jamming or shows though. So be warned if you're going to push this baby be smart about it.

It takes a real genius to vent the fan out of the top of a unit when it also has pre-drilled holes for rack ears to mount it in a rack. I myself love my rack unit but while I was using this I had to keep it by itself out of the rack so it wouldnt over heat. The dials have a tendency to distort when adjusting them and be carefull any wrong move or slight bump and this thing is grounded for good and unless you have a hush unit it gets annoying. I.e you get what you pay for.

I love this little head. Power, Tonal Qualities, Ease of Operation. This is my second one. I had to replace the first one because some idiot that was helping us tear down after a gig, dropped the first one down a flight of stairs. I had that one for 2 years, and never had a problem with it. I was playing it through a Genz Benz,210 and 410 cabinets and the sound was awsome. I now have Mark Bass 210 and 410 cabs, and the sound is out of this world. I play an ESP LTD 5 String, a Spector Custom 5, and a Warwick Double Buck 5, and this head handles every thing I can put through it. I also use envelope filters, octave dividers, chorus pedals , and a looper through the effects loop, and a foot switch to go over to the distortion channel, and this little head has not let me down. I play at least twice a week, and I have no complaints. Thanks GK !!
