I am a very active musician. I bought this uit because I have always been a GK man. I love the soud of GK Bass Amps. I also like the portability and amp covers that come with this uit. It is designed for the gigging bass player. The negatives i have heard about this unit revolve around volume issues. I have experienced no such problems. I think that some people try to get more out of their amps than they were intended to produce. Any amp sounds muddy if you drive it to hard. That is why this amp is equiped with a Low Impedence output. It sounds great through a PA. I run the channel gains low and the master volume at about half, and I get tons of beautiful GK Tone. After goig through the PA, it will really thump you. For the money this is the best unit i have ever owned. The Dirty channel is also a nice feature, just keep the Drive set at about half. If you are looking to get that GK sound and still have some green in your pocket, this is your baby.

To make it short and sweet, keep the cab, loose the head. the head is utter crap and sounded horrible through any cab i played it through, i bought a beringer ultrabass head cause im on a budget and need to get a rig ready for a few shows and that 115 cab never sounded better, save up dont settle on this unless your next to screwed on time and money.

I bought this GK Brat Pack to get back into playing live thinking it would beat running through the PA all the time. Big mistake. You can get a decent sound out of this if you play it low, but if you even try to turn it up, it all turns into this muddy, roaring, painful sound. No clarity at all

The amp has a minimum of an 8 ohm load and you are very specifically told not to hook more than one 8 ohm cabinet to it. It was not made to drive more than one 8 ohm cabinet and it sounds like crap with the one 15" cabinet. I was able to hook up a 212 4 ohm cabinet in SERIES, not parallel (normal daisy chaining of cabs is parallel and drops the ohms). Because of that series connection I was running a 12 ohm load on the amp which was safe. If it was the normal parallel hook-up that would have put a 2.67 load on the amp and that would have melted it. Then the sound was OK (not great but OK), but rms watts dropped to about 85 from 125 (higher ohms=fewer watts delivered).

Don't buy this package thinking you can use it on it's own as anything other than a practice amp or that you can expand it later. Kiss off using it in rehearsal let alone a gig.

All was not lost for me though. I use the GK 115 speaker under an acoustic 410 cab powered by an Eden Nemesis RS400 (400 watts at 4 ohms) and that works great! Just don't expect anything out of this "Brat Pack" outside of a personal practice amp.

Our bass player purchased this rig because he was in a bit of a bind, and wow did he make a bad decision. It sounds decent and very low volumes but when you attempt to crank it theres nothing but MUD. As far as attack and punch it's simple ... THERE IS NONE. Do yourself a favor, save a few extra bucks and buy yourself something something worth while.
