The Godin A5 Semi Acoustic Fretless bass produces superb acoustic bass sounds from an instrument that is only slightly larger than a standard solid body bass and much lighter. The 2-chambered body design resists feedback as well as the negative effects that loud stage levels can have on top vibration. Vibration of the solid cedar top is further controlled by a cello inspired bracing pattern. The custom A-Bass electronics include an under-saddle ribbon transducer and preamp by L.R. Baggs.

Godin A5 Semi-Acoustic 5-String Fretless Bass Guitar Features:

  • Rock maple neck

  • 1 13/16" nut width
  • 2-chamber silver leaf maple body
  • Solid cedar top

Awesome bass

I purchased this used, and think it's one of the best purchases for any instrument I've bought over the years.

It's very playable. Great action and fast fretboard. Well balanced. Beautiful instrument.

It's sound also fits the style of music I play: flamenco-arabic fusion. The on-board active piezo pickup system allows me to vary the tone greatly. It gets a great mid-range punchy sound which complements the fretless sound. For my style of music, I think the low-end on the 5th string is plenty strong.

There are only 2 downsides. 1) I used to play a 24-fret fretless acoustic-electric, and I've had to sacrifice the upper range. 2) The pickup is too hot. I place the slider at just under 50% and it will distort my amp higher than this level.

If I were to lose this bass, I would purhcase it again for its retail price

Amazing Bass How Sweet The Sound

This is my second review on this great bass. First off, this bass has a great look and sound without a amp. the low B is not that good. I changed to a high C. This allowed me to have more expressive high notes. I used light flat wound steels from Dean Markley.I use it on all my gigs. Also it really opens a lot of possibilities when it is plug in with a 13 pin midi cable and The Roland VB-99 bass system. The sky is the limit with bass tones effects and different acoustic and Fender, Gibson etc. The synth patches are awesome especially when hooked up in stereo. This bass eliminates me from caring my upright and fretted basses. Give yourself some time to get use to the bass and the VB-99 module. when you do you will realize what a great value these two instruments are. im playing with at least 5 bands here New Orleans. You can do any gig with this bass

Best Acoustic

I just had this bass just 2 weeks and it by far a great deal. You get a real fat acoustic ntaural sound with many variations in tones. The action is fast. My A5 came with an ebony fingerboard.Lots of sustain and punchy mids. Also the Midi pickup worked flawlessly with a Roland V99B synth unit. The gig bag is tops in looks and storage compartments. No feedback when i play next to my Gk rig It has a beautiful finish and the preamp and Midi patch buttons are user friendly. The best deal for a bass player who want to get more sounds out of one bass.

the low end on this bass is pretty much horrible its just way to floppy and no low end presence. but i must say that the high end on it sounds amazing!!! around the 12th fret on the d and g string its an outstanding fretless sound!!! but of course another drag is that there is little to no sustain at all in this bass. but i got mine foe a killer deal and it was all worth it for that higher end.
