In 1956, Walter Hofner had an idea for an amplified semi-acoustic bass. When it was brought to life, his idea resulted in a bass with a warm, woody, double-bass-like amplified tone. Many players revere Hofner basses for their historical significance as well as for their smooth, sweet sound and playing ease that eludes most ordinary basses.

Because the original bass guitar had become so scarce and expensive, popular demand compelled Hofner to re-create the Club Bass 500/2. The new Hofner 500/2 Club Bass shares the feel, tone, and many features of the Hofner Vintage '63 but with a more traditional guitar body profile and a single cutaway.

Only a Hofner is a Hofner!

I had Gibson, Fenders and other solid body basses, but suffered from the heavy weight. So my love went for Hofners. At first I was surprised how light they are, and how fragile! But this even appealed to me and I totally fell in love with them. I collected over the years nearly all Hofner bass models, from the "Beatles Bass" to the "President" and I even own a super rare "Committee" bass, all from the 60's. But I never got the "Club" model. Until Hofner came on the market with the reissue. I ordered one straight away from the factory, without sunburst paint and I am the proud owner of the only "blonde" model worldwide. Compared to all my real vintage Hofners, my Club bass has a much more defined sound and a clearer, "bonier" tone. It's a high class instrument made from best woods and I will never ever part from it. I play blues, rockabilly and country and the Hofner is perfect for this music. Like many say, it sounds (with flat wound strings, which I recommend for this type) like an upright bass, but is easy to transport and handle and offers bass galore. For recording it can be tricky, because the boomy and fat tone can influence the overall transparancy of your recording in a fatal way. Fenders leave a lot of space for other instruments, the Hofner fills it up. You have to take that in consideration when you record. But once you know how to work with it, you will love it forever!

No one has ever improved on this bass...it along with the original 500/1 models are the pinnacle of what an electric bass should be. Of course, you should be looking for a true bass sound...if you want your instrument to sound like something besides an electric bas this instrument isn't for you. But there's nothing that beats the hofner line foir doing what a bass is meant to do. in addition it's very lightweight and almost plays itself. Fretting is effortless with a proper setup, and the tone, especially in the upper register is omething absolutely impossible to get out offenders and the like. I own several basses, including an early 60s P bass, a 70's jazz and a 70's Rick 4001. I don't even pick them up any more. The Hofner is the only one I use.

I've been a Jazz bass player for 35 years and I have to say this has a totally different feel and sound - but in a good way. This bass sounds warm and mellow and almost plays itself. Takes some getting used to because it is so light compared to a J or P bass. Get one and you won't regret it.

Finaly, a bass that fits!

The Hofner Club Bass 500/2(reissue) provides a playing expierience that far exceeds that of any other hollowbody that I've played. I would describe it as dare I say, 'mystical'. It's hard to find a bass that offers a vibe that's just as vintage as it is modern. It will not replace your primary solid body electric, so don't expect the Club to be a cure for every playing situation. But it's light weight construction makes it the most desirable bass in my collection for longer gigs. I enjoy using it to write original bass lines for my band as well as playing along to some Hendrix or Alman Brothers at home. With a no risk try-out period you've gotta get one of these on the way today!

I own this Hofner and a 1963 Vintage Beatle Bass. The Club Bass plays just as well, if not better. The electronics and sound on the Club Bass are awesome! No one should be disappointed owning this!
