I switched from a Fender standard Jazz to this. Though nothing sounds quite like the Fender Jazz, this can come very close - and then it can sound like a Rickenbacker, a Stingray, a Fender Precision, etc...and this plays way better.
I have this string up 120, 95, 75, 55 and tuned DGCF. The lows just rumble. It's unbelievable. The active electronics and coil selecting allow for a huge variety of tones without even looking at your amp. I have an ATK300 in natural finish and pictures do it no justice. No other bass in it's price range can compete. This bass transcends genres, playing styles and ability levels. It is a must have.

I'm a beginner ready to move up fromthe bass I have. I went to local store and saw this kick a@* looking bass hanging on the wall(in red). The pictures don't do this thing justice. They hooked this thing up to a Line6 2-10 combo and man did this thing sound sweeeet! Even with everything set flat. I didn't have a lot time to tweak it, but you can tell this machine is capabile of a lot. Anybody thats like me, and ready for that next step in sound and quality THIS IS IT!

Great Bass, I was looking to buy a G&L when I went to the shop and picked up one of these, I played it and was sold. For the price you can't beat it.
pros: Infinite tones, good quality, fairly comfortable to play (I have HUGE hands and sometimes they cramp up, but after I get really good and warmed up it goes away)
Cons: it's not perfect, it could have a little better located pick up (slightly closer to neck) but for this price, you shouldn't complain about ANYTHING!

I've missed Ibanez

I own the ATK700 4-string that MF just had on a clearance sale, and it is AWESOME!! The ATK700 is simply this bass without a pickguard with a dark blue dyed figured maple top (the moon blue is a gorgeous finish). Its prettier, but essentially its the same bass.
Back to the title line, I used to own an Ibanez SR406 6-string that I had to sell because bill collectors were calling. Reluctantly, I got rid of it, and didn't realize how much I have missed Ibanez until receiving the 700. I jumped on the "Ibanez is only for rock and metal" band wagon, but this bass changed my mind about that. This bass arrived set up, which is unusual. I didn't have to adjust action or intonation; all that was needed was a slight adjustment of the truss rod (but that is with most new basses). Since ATK is an abbreviation for "attack," you can expect a bright tone with a fast attack. The bass is heavy, but the tone is worth the weight. Tight lows, shimmering and crisp highs, smooth mids. The EQ filters on the pre are actually set correctly, so this 3-band doesn't sound like a stock pre... In fact, the pre works as well (if not better) than the pre in my Traben Chaos Obsession 5-string. This bass tracks very well in the studio and sounds great live. It does kind of knock off a MusicMan, but think about it: you can get MM feel and tone from a similar bass for HUNDREDS less than a MM... It might just be me, but its a no brainer! The only thing lacking in my opinion is a pickup at the neck, but as much as I love the tone coming from the triple coil, I may not even do that.
Great fingerstyle or pick tone, excellent slap tone, plays great, good for many different styles of music (not just rock and metal), and affordable. I use this bass for country, pop, funk, and jazz sessions. It is not my main bass, but it is my 2nd, and I take it to every session that I record. Do yourself a favor and buy this bass.
