Solid, but needs help at first.

The Ibanez BTB775PB is a very nice bass guitar. It is solid and well-designed. Not too heavy, not too light. I believe the factory did not put 100% effort and care into the details.

Comes with very cheap instrument cable, 2 standard wrenches, a bunch of throw-away advertisements. Does NOT come with a case!

THE BAD Not set up well, out of the box. Had to adjust truss rod (added relief) and string height to minimize fret buzz. Intonation correct.

The "A" string seems to be very quiet compared to the other strings. It's the same in both pickups. Still investigating...

Elixir strings were very slick. I could see their "nano" finish wearing off after only a few minutes of playing with a pick. The B string was very floppy. Replaced all with GHS medium...much better!

Pickup balance knob was loose. Easy fix: tightened screw.

Neck pickup was dramatically crooked (one side was adjusted HIGH, the other side LOW). Attempted to adjust, but it was stuck in place. After completely removing all three adjusting screws, the pickup popped out and I was able to reinstall the screws and level the pickup.

Found some white residue on finish in the nooks and tight spots...not a big problem, was leftover wax/polish.

Very uneasy using standard strap nubs...replaced with strap locks...much safer!

THE GOOD I'm 6" tall with proportionate hand size. The fretboard is a teensy bit wide, but I'll get used to it. Neck is thicker than I expected, but also am getting used to it. Neck plays very fast, especially on the higher strings.

Live EQ is nice! The boost is very dramatic. Requires two 9-volt batteries.

The bridge is beautiful and functions well. Easy, precise adjustments. Very easy to replace strings.

Beautiful appearance. Could not find a flaw anywhere. Not sure why Ibanez decided to call it "Charcoal" anything. It's more red (vs. Brown) than I expected...but not a problem at all. I would have preferred a natural wood finish instead of thick, glossy clearcoat...but Ibanez did not offer anything at the time.

Love the cable lock feature! No more looping the cable through the strap for security.

It gets lots of positive comments (re: sound and appearance) at practices and gigs.

I recommend anyone to at least play and consider the BTB775 before buying a bass guitar. I feel like I should have tried out more basses, but was in a rush to purchase at the time. The price and features were right.
