Nice bass, but...

I just tried this bass in a local music store. Looked interesting - I've always been interested in short scale basses. (My first electric bass was a Gibson EB3, though mostly these days I'm playing a Fender Precision style bass.) I was able to get some nice growly sounds out of it, and was having fun with it, but: When I first lifted it I was inclined to think maybe there's granite underneath that black finish - I expected a bass this small to be light, but this was very heavy. And then, there was the volume; I was playing through a 100 watt bass amp, and when I turned the volume up all the way on the amp and on the bass, it wasn't even loud. With that amp the walls should have been shaking. Perhaps the pickup was defective, but as it is, it would be completely unusable except in a bedroom situation. Too bad.

I have played bass for about 5 years now. I can get sound from this bass that I gan never seem to get from others. I can make it sound like a rythim guitar or a metal bass, it is heavy but I love it.

I thought we were getting a great deal. The bass was for my 10 year old son. I thought it would be a great starter bass but the tone is terrible and we can hardly hear the thing, even though I have a decent amp. We're not having any neck problems, though. And my son thinks it looks cool. However-all in all a waste of $. Don't buy it. Get something better quality

I've played bass for 25 years. This is a true bass guitar (big body, thick neck, heavy action, requires strong hands, etc.)! I bought mine from a pawn shop - it is perfect. This bass plays as good as my Les Paul Bass - it handles like a Gibson Bass, not a Fender. Be logical within your expectations - structure equals function.

Good Beginner Bass

I bought this for my son, whom is 12 years old, as a starter bass. And this instrument is what it is. A beginner instrument. I have played for over 30 years, rock & roll, country, jazz, contemporary Christian. This bass can play any style, and it has a shorter neck for smaller hands (I play a 1977 Fender Precision). It has a good sound, not great, but adequate. Had a couple problems, the A string was buzzing, but that was a quick fix, and still have and continue to have a problem with the input jack. It keeps coming loose. I have tried everything to tighten it up, and have taken it to the local shop, and even they have had problems with the jack. All in all a good starter bass but not much beyond that.
