To all who want a versatile bass, this is the one. The Ibanez SR405QM has a very flexible tonal range. I commonly play death metal and this bass delivers the right amount of punch and crunch for my desired tone. When I am done thrashing this bass can emulate the smoothest tones and the grooviest slaps. I reccomend purchasing a Line 6 Bass Pod to go along with it. Although the Bass has an awesome tone on its own it can be enhanced futher with the Pod's amp settings.

After about a year of serious practicing, I decided to upgrade from my starter bass. I had been looking at five strings, but I was hoping to stay at a 4 string. I found this bass in a music shop where I also take lessons, and my teacher pointed it out to me. I picked it up and began slapping out 'My name is mud'. the tone was amazing, incredible punch for a passive bass. The three band EQ makes it incredibly easy to dial in any tone you want. The neck is very quick and the string spacing made the switch to the 5 string a breeze. And for the various prices that I've seen (all around the same amount), it's a steal. The lows are booming, and the highs are crisp. I use a lot of harmonics, and this bass picks them up flawlessly. I would recommend this bass to anyone.

This bass is hands-down the best bass I've ever owned, including a few that were more expensive or "nicer." It's extremely lightweight, plays like a dream, and is beautiful on top of all of that. The amount of control over your sound with just the knobs on it is unbeleivable. When I bought it, I was planning on replacing the pickups with something a bit higher-end (I was in a metal band at the time) but this has proven unnecessary, as the pickups it comes with can hear a pin drop. Incredible bass for an incredible price.

I've owned this bass for about 3 years now and play around 4 shows a month and have become so accustomed to this bass that playing anything else is a major annoyance to me. it has a strong stable bridge and very good hardware that keep it in tune very well. the on-board electronics allow you to shape your tone to almost exactly what you want and the B is nice and tight.
a fast neck and narrow string spacing allow for a smoother transition from a 4 string once you grasp the concept of having 5 at your disposal. pickups are not bad but seem to be the only area that could use improvement (I'll be upgrading to Bartolinis soon). a great buy for the beginner or the experienced musician, whatever your background may be

Well were do I start? I got this bass about 2 months ago and so far its the best 5 string I could ask for, for the price. Prior to getting this bass I owned a Fender Jazz bass (4 string) which I played exclusively until I got the 405QM. The transition between the neck of the 4 and 5 string isnt that big. The string spacing is close and the neck is thin and fast. The pickups have a hot signal to them and pick up the low B very well. I am VERY pleased and impressed with this bass for the time Ive had it. Its a beautiful color (they say its charcol brown but its actually blood red). I would reccomend this bass to anybody looking for a reliable, great sounding/looking, and affordable 5 string.
