The Ibanez Soundgear SR506 is a good beginner bass for anyone interested in ERB's (extended range basses) the wood is a bit soft on the body...i tore mine up after 3 months with my fingernails just from playing...put if you play soft music, and slow music, you shouldnt have to worry about that...the tone is a bit punchy but somewhat stale and warm. i bought mine at guitar center here in STL, which for anyone whos been there, knows that they dont take care of anything and the bass had some frett buzz. its got a nice neck, real thin...good if your doing sweeps and taps and playing fast music. like i said the wood is soft, and spacey so its got it flaws sound wise, but for the price, your getting what you pay for...and thats a great deal...if your going to get a 6 string bass...do it right, and dont buy anything less than this bass.

The perfect bass for me

I've played 36 years, and have owned Fenders, Yamahas, Ibanez, and Modulus. I recently traded for this Ibanez because I love my old SR-1000 4-string Ibanez and was ready to move on from my Modulus 6. This bass came at an unbeatable price, and I grabbed it.

The sound is as good as or better than the Modulus. The neck is much easier to manage and doesn't tire me out. Sustain is wonderful, and the variability of tone is amazing. The neck is thin, narrow, and easy. I'm used to handling the typical Ibanez fret buzz caused by the extremely low action, so this is no problem for me on this bass.

Combining this with a new MarkBass amp, I can get any sound I want, play as long as I want without tiring, and not be distracted by playing stress. For the money, this bass is unbeatable; it's the best inexpensive 6-string I've found.

First one had to be a 6-string...

I've playing guitar for about ten years, blues and flamenco mostly, and I've always liked low tunings better, so naturaly, I always wondered what guitar solos and riffs would sound like played with that thick bass tone. I bought this bass with the intension of exploring that idea and I couldn't be happier. The playability is virtually perfect for me, the sound is very versatile thanks to the active Bartolini's, and the look of the bass is almost minimalistic, simply beautiful wood. I've only had some problems with the bridge, the saddles, have a tendency to lower the action gradually, so I have to adjust it quite often. Once that's fixed, this'll be one of the finest instruments I've played.

Solid 6 string, hands down

For a few years now, I've wanted a six string bass. I've been playing for over ten years, have owned many basses and recently found Soundgear basses to be well worth the money. I also own a Warwick Streamer, Tobias Growler 5, and a Warmoth Jazz Bass. The SR506 though has been the only bass that I've been desiring for almost a year now.

I also just recently purchased an Ibanez SRX series four string, it has some serious tone as well.

For the price, you get Bartolini and dual truss rods. Playability, you get one sleek and thin jotoba/bubinga neck that is very comfortable to play yet does not hold back on tone. Any neck is a big issue, as I've had to change my playing to accommodate an injury to my fretting hand. I've played this bass without the slightest pain. And sound, you'll definitely have to hear it for yourself. You just can't miss on this bass.

This bass is a very good value for the price. I'm in a band that plays metal, rock, grunge, you name it so it is very versitile.

The only issue is that when you change the strings, the neck truss rod I guess seems to tighten up. A simple alan key to lossen it up a tad will do the job
