I am also primarily a guitarist wanting to round off with the bass. Excellent purchase. Pickups sound great, excellent sustain. Great sound overall.

Runs through a Pod X3 Live, can't beat this bass for the price.

I bought this bass as a kick around since it was so inexpensive, now I find I'm picking it up more often than my rick, jazz or p-bass. Excellent purchase.

I am an advanced guitarist and wanted to learn bass to add to my music knowledge. Although I do not know everything about bass or any advanced technique, I think this bass has every thing you need. I wanted a bass that was well priced, at least intermediate, and would not fall apart. The SRX500 met all of my requirements. I think this bass is awesome and it will be the only bass I need unless I get as serious as I am on guitar. The only problems I had was a loose pickup blend knob and a very small crack on the flamed maple top near the bridge(which is fine, as long as it doesn't spread). These defects are probably only on the bass I got. Even as a teenager, I find this a very affordable bass.

I returned mine. I thought maybe I'd get a second bass, I don't know why strayed from my fender jazz. As for slippery strings, or a small neck, the fender jazz c neck is by far the best, and why on earth would you play a bass with stock strings ? As for versatility, this bass seems to be all or nothing. needs more adjust ability with an EQ, although, I imagine for heavy metal, it would work.

Well, I play this bass for school Jazz band. It is fairly good looking, and the tone isn't terrible, but my own Mexican Jazz Bass sounds much better. Because it's an active bass, I thought it would be good, but it's really not. It sounds a little tinny, never really punchy, even when the "punch" button on the amp is depressed. Also when I was slapping the E-string it somehow imprinted the grooves from the string on the top fret. last of all, even in jazz, you don't really need 24 frets, and the top two are almost worthless because they are so thinly spaced. Go for a passive Fender of the same value. It is a much better instrument.
