Great bass, at a great price!!

I recently bought the 4401 lakland, without ever playing one before, and I was plain amazed, this is by far the best bass I have ever owned and I have dozens including 2 fenders, and a Musicman! The lakland plays better, sounds better, and looks better! Any progressive or rock bass player has to have this bass, the bartolini pickups have amazing growl with great treble to boot, and you can still mimic the sounds of fender and ernie ball, and the feel of the neck is unmatched by any other brand! I suggest anyone willing to spend a few extra bucks should buy this bass!

I thought nothing could compare with my '73 Precision. I was wrong. The action on my Lakland is better, and the thinner neck makes it easier to throw in some really fast licks at the top of the neck that were more difficult to play cleanly on the Fender. Sounds great in the studio as well as at a gig. It has a huge spectrum of sounds, and became my favorite bass to play within a few days of purchase. And the absence of a pickguard allows you to better see the beauty of the instrument. My only regret is that I didn't get one sooner.

This bass is astounding for the price!...

This bass is astounding for the price! First, let make clear what I mean by "American-Made." All of the parts for this bass (minus electronics on the 44-01 models) are made in the same factory in Chicago that ALL models by Lakland are manufactured. Each body and neck are uniquely paired and labled, then sent overseas to be assembled and finished. All of the finishing standards match those in Chicago. The final product is then shipped back here. So, in essence, this is an American-made instrument. As stated countless time by others, the tonal versatility is unmatched in its price range. I've owned/own many basses from vintage Fenders, Ibanez, Washburn, Samick, Ernie Ball/Musicman, and even Squier, but nothing compares to this! I suggest getting one before the realize what they're basically giving away!

I own the bass and for the last 2 years have had no problem with it. The best recording bass I own. I have Specter, Schecter, Fender, and the Lakeland. Lakeland is #1 for the $.

I was looking for a bass with active electronics to compliment my "64" Fender Precision and German upright. I tried them all and the sound from the Lakeland 44-01 blew me and the various people I work with away. The price was certainly right. Now the bad news. In less then two years the volume pod went and now the main board is fried....Did I get a lemon or are there more problem Lakelands out there? I'm about to find out if Lakeland stands behind it's name....
