A Lakland humbucker (bridge) and a single-coil (neck) are teamed with the same 3-band active preamp used in the US-made 55-94 to let you dial in an incredible range of tones. 3-way toggle for coil splitting offers increased tonal range. It has that deep Lakland cutaway on the high register side of the neck that allows easy access to highest frets for throwing licks on top of your grooves. Ash body with a quilt veneer top and deluxe transparent finish.

Lakland luthiers now do their fret work using Plek technology to assure optimum playability. Plek is a CAD/CAM machine with scanning capability. It was developed to perform high-speed, highly accurate fret dressing, nut and bridge slotting and shaping, and engraving work. When used by an experienced luthier, the Plek machine produces necks with fretwork and action that equal the very best handwork and does it consistently.

I've had this bass for about a week now. As usual, I am very skeptical at first. I've been looking for a while. Purchased and returned a few times. I've already tried the Warwicks, Musicman, Fenders, etc. But let me tell you, forget Warwick and Musicman, this one beats both of them combined. When it comes to a nice low tone and versatility, the others are nothing by comparison. You can’t get much low on a Musicman. And forget Warwick, the only thing I like about it is the look. This Lakland gives me a low tone unlike any other I've tried so far. I mean, you can make it really low, and it's clean. Toggle switch is something I haven't figured out yet. The tone quality is very nice and quite different. The pickups are positioned in a very comfortable way. And I am happy that it has 22 frets. Who needs to waste their energy on stretching their hand another inch or two when you almost never use it? Over all by comparison to others with-in price range, so far I give this bass a 6+.

This bass is an absolute joy to play. Whether you want to gig it or just play around the house, it can handle both. They honestly aren't kidding with the wide range of tones you can get with this bass. You can get a classic J-bass sound, a good MusicMan punch, and very wonderfully clean piano-like tones. The Pre-amp and EQ lets you adjust each tone to your own likings.

The feel of the bass is great. Once you pick it up it immediately feels like you've been playing it for months. There's nothing to get used to... I can't speak for the rosewood fretboard but the maple makes for some very bright but not harsh tones.

My only qualm is with the pickup-blending. While there is some subtle blending capabilities, it's really hard for me to tell the difference. It seems like it's either 100% J, 50/50, or 100% MM.

This is a buitifull bass with really great features. Electronicly, it can't be beat. The Bartollini pickups and Fishman electronics have never caused me any problems like clicks or buzzing whatever I did with the settings, if you've never used a pre-amp before, (I hadn't)it opens up all sorts of possibilities without pedals or tweeking your amp. Very cool, now I don't know how I ever played without a pre-amp! There are cheaper bass' with pre-amps, but these electronics are the best.
