I purchased the deluxe in 3 tone sunburst with rosewood fingerboard 1 week ago without ever playing a Lakland. I've been searching for a mid priced 5 to replace my Ibanez 1305PM for some time. Tried quite a few basses in this price range and couldn't find any that compared to my Stingray HH 4 string for playability and tone. When I first received the Lakland I was really thrown off by the neck width. Coming from a Soundgear it's pretty noticeable difference. I even thought of returning it because of this. After a week of solid playing I really fell in love. I'm sure the 55-94 is a bit nicer but for the price difference this is a great value. Let me say, it is not a Stingray, if you're looking for that in your face sound go buy an HH for almost the exact same money and you will not be dissapointed. This feels like a slightly refined Stingray, you can definitely hear the Jazz bass influence as well. I'd love to see a swept mid knob instead of the switches inside but the switches are better than nothing. You get authentic passive tones as an additional option. Volume difference in passive is significant enough that you won't switch in the middle of a song or anything. At least if you're 9v fails you're not left with a 2x4. Finish is beautiful by the way. Couldn't give it a 5 for value only due to the lack of a hardshell case. I found a Fender hardshell that fits it great. I believe it was made for a Jazz bass. I highly recommend this product!

I tried this bass out at one of the local stores. I loved the sound that I got out of it so much, I decided that it was going to be my 1st five string. I got my bass, but was concerned because the box was in bad shape. I opened the box and saw that the bass was ok. The finish is awsome (I ordered a cherry sunburst finish with rosewood fingerboard)!! When I took it out, my jaw hit the floor; I've never seen this finish in person and NO picture will do it justice. There were no flaws regarding the finish or frets. I plugged it in and found that it was out of tune and started adjusting it. The peg tuners are the smoothest I've ever dealt with. I start playing- the tone is incredible, as described by previous reviewers, and will enable you to get just about any sound for any genre of music. For those of you that have big hands like I do, the string spacing is sufficient enough for you to slap and pop. For the price, you can't get a better looking, feeling, or sounding bass.

I bought this bass to replace my Fender Squire P-Bass. I play for a traveling ministry team, so this bass is played several times every weekend, not counting practices. The sound is truly amazing. Everyone in my band is amazed by what this bass can sound like. Also, the bass feels amazing. It's just flat out smooth. I picked it up for the first time and felt like I had already been playing it for years. Great Bass, worth the money for sure.

I've been nothing but happy with this bass, I play every gig with it and get nothing but compliments on my sound.
I've dealt with the guys at Lakland and they always been helpful, I even stopped into the shop with my bass to have it looked over and re-setup.

One Great Sounding Bass

I got the Lakland 55-02 five string bass for Christmas this year and after using it on a few shows this bass sounds awesome. Although I changed the cheap rubber knobs out with some nice Tulip wood knobs that I turned myself, they really set the cherry burst finish off. I had to adjust the neck and the string height but after that it fells like a dream. The new Lakland pickups have a fat bottom sound and work well with the new LH preamp.
I have gotten nothing but great compliments on how well the bass sounds. All the Band members and Sound men just love the sound. It's kind of a cross between a Jazz and a Musicman bass. Nice big sound for rock and a good jazz bass sound and feel for slapping.
The Bass is well built and has some better features than the Fenders. The bridge seems better that the Fenders and the stringd go through the body.
All in All This is a very nice Bass and if you have the funds It should be a good investment and last a long time.
