One of the Best Solid State Combos

The Line 6 Lowdown models are definitely some of the best in the business. I've used friend's model multiple times, and it truly is great. Each setting from clean to synth offer a lot of tonal range, and can fit almost any style you want. My favorite is the Rock setting with some added effects, like chorus and phaser. (My favorite bass guitarist is Chris Squire of Yes, so you might have an idea what I like the bass to sound like.) I also like that the amp has a tweeter so the real highs are driven under the 15 in. speaker. I wish they put a tweeter on the 12 in. model so it would sound even better. I've also used Lowdown in stores, and in comparison to every other solid state model, which includes Fender, Ampeg, and Hiwatt, the Line 6 is simply better. This is one amp that can give me the sound I like without having to buy a super expensive Ampeg tube head. I would have to recommend this to anyone who needs an intermediate level amplifier. The small problem with it that didn't earn it a complete 5 stars across the board is the 15 inch speaker. I simply don't like them because they have too much bass response, but if that's what you are going for, this amp supplies. I really can't wait until the double 10 in. with tweeter model comes out, because it will probably be the optimum solid state amp. That model will probably have a 5 star rating all around. So, buy a Line 6 the next time you need a solid state amp.

A good, diverse amp!

I picked up this amp a few days ago, spent a couple of hours dialing in a sound or two that I like. So far, I have to say it's the best money I've ever spent on gear! I'm not really familiar with the amps that it claims to model, but I do know that the sound is highly customizable and for 175 watts, it's got some real punch! Strangely, I really like the factory default first preset with just a bit more compression! Good Buy!

Why does an amp with 6 channels only have 4 onboard patches ? Why does adding a Shortboard to the amp give you 36 banks that only about 1/2 are truly usable ?
I got this amp to be an upgrade for my Ampeg B-50R (50 watts to 1 12 in speaker). I wanted an amp with a 15 in speaker & a few more watts that retains that Ampeg Flip-Top sound. This amp will do it. The Clean amp model does its job, as does the SVT model. I can't seem to find much use for the Grind & Synth channels anyway. Too many patches on the Shortboard use these channels. The bridge pickup on my '78 Moonstone Eclipse would not function with the synth channel at all.
The amp is portable, but casters would help a lot. It's still easier to handle than my SVT !
Plenty of power to gig with - the 300 must really kick !
Built in Comp & effects work, like the onboard tuner, & the Deep switch used on the FlipTop channel sounds great.

The Perfect Amp For Me

I bought this amp four months ago for use with my band. The "rock" amp model is perfect for the modern rock sound, and the other four models, along with the synth, offer a sound for any style of music. When I baught the 175 watt version of this amp, rather than the 300 watt version, I was nervous at first that the volume would not match up to the rest of the band or fill a room during a show... My nerves were quickly cooled when I started playing the amp. This buddy delivers when it comes to volume. The only reason i gave features a nine was the lack of casters. The lowdowns are not exactly low in weight and while the spring-loaded handles are a nice touch and are essential for transportation of the amp, they do not make it easy. The quality, value, and "overall" categories only recieved 9 stars from me because i have only had the amp for a few months. If it stands the test of time as well as it has so far, I would be happy to come back and give it all a ten. I highly recommend this amp to anyone who wants multiple tones from one machine and... umm... plays bass? Who wouldn't want this beautiful peice of equiptment?
