Variety of tine for days

The bass is well put together and has a nice finish. The only complaint is the knobs good be of a better quality. The volume knob/mode selection tends to sink down too low to activate the switch. Easy fix you just pull the knob out a bit and it works fine. I don't own any of the modeled basses, but the variety of tone is stellar. I couldn't tell you how closely they match the original but I am very impressed with the variety of tone. In particular I like the Stingray, Modulus, MTD, Longhorn and Thunderbird models. The P and J models are very good too. I really get a kick out of the 8 and 12 string mod's. Makes playing Cheap Trick and "Jeremy" a lot of fun now. The standup mod is also alot of fun. Sure it's not a real standup but in a live setting the sound is very close to my ears. I've used mine at several live shows at this writing and have been very pleased with the sound. I am even using one of the synth mods on "Der Kommissar". At the current price this is a no brainer. I'd have been just as happy at two three times the price. It also comes with a very nice gig bag and the direct box power supply.

this thing completely changed my sound, every time you plug it in and hear it is astonishing,it sounds so pro it cuts thru the mix but doesn't get in the way,it is warm and smooth as butter but crystal clear. Need a different tone for a track? just switch basses! I've been playing bass for 14 years now and never heard anything like this-my bass playing friends are jealous, they spent the same amount on their basses and only get one sound that I can mimic on the fly! I use this with a bass pod xt live and it is just amazing! I've just had this thing for about 1 month now (and still waiting for the variax cable from musician's friend!) the only complaints I have are that the synth sounds are good but very limited, the "moog" one is not even close to a minimoog albeit it is good and there is a "pedal" in the xt that sounds almost like it (when they make a workbench for this thing you know the first model I'll be replacing!) Also another complaint-the acoustic+upright are really close but not dead on, but what can you expect! Also i've read with the cheaper variax models the pickups tend to break quick so I hope that won't happen! The action is perfect so is the intonation, the neck is very comfortable also! Buy this if you record or do session work or if you play in a band that does different styles of music and needs a varied sound! I love it,my friends love it,and my band loves it!

Not so hot

Don't get me wrong, this is a great bass to the ears of a beginner, but 25 years of bass has taught me what is good and bad. The tone of this bass is the only thing acceptable. My Rogue SX100B 4-String Electric Bass is better in every other way. This bass has horrible strings, bad pickups, and needs to be sent back to the shop. And its also so heavy that it broke my straploks. This is a thumbs down. This is a beginner bass.
